Why is saying the war was about Oil a stretch?

Even Alan Greenspan, said the motivation for war on Iraq was for Oil. Is Alan Greenspan a moonbat now too?

That is what they stated publicly. However, their actions belie their rhetoric.

On a different note, how on earth is Ron Paul the lead in this poll? He's barely even mentioned in mainstream media (compared to other candidates)... I think it's quite the pipe dream to think he's got a change.

However, it sure would be nice....

Securing new sources of oil was clearly a very high priority for the Bush administration upon taking office. This is evidenced by the fact that Cheney lauched his Energy Task Force in only week two of the adminstration's first term.

The proceedings were held in secret. (Of course anything involving the shadowy Cheney will be done behind closed doors). A Freedom of Information Act lawsuit uncovered documents such as maps of Iraqi oilfields, pipelines, refineries, terminals, and potential areas for exploration; and a Pentagon chart “Foreign Suitors for Iraqi Oilfield Contracts". All documents were dated March 2001.

Look at the priorities of our military upon taking Iraq. The country was allowed to be looted but the Iraqi Oil Ministry? Untouched. Oil infrastructure? Secured.

Just look at their actions. Look at oil prices over the last few years.

I know what their stated motives were. And I have noticed they have continually shifted over time. I have also noticed that virtually everything they have said about the Iraq war has proven to be false. Therefore I suggest everyone take their claims that Iraq was not about oil with a large mountain of salt.

Paul has a disproportionally large following on the internet and among libertarian-minded people. So it is no surprise that he is The Man here.

I agree he does not have a chance though. It would take a large crisis for Americans to support an agent of real change.

Exactly. The thread is called "Who is going to win," not "who do you WANT to win."

If Ron Paul didn't look like the Heaven's Gate dude, he might have a better chance. In order to win, you have to be all botoxed up like a wax sculpture... like Mitt Romney. I think Mitt's just an alien. Wouldn't surpise me.

If John Kerry would have done some last minute bottox injections to give himself more of a padunkadunk and worn some hoochie mama jeans... he might have actually won in 2004.
