i want to take a moment pay reparations to the people who lost friends and family in the tragic event of 9/11. It will never be forgotten and My heart goes out to those people who have lost loved ones in the catastropie, and may they R.I.P.

take a moment to think about your blessings, seriously. you have everything you need and much more to keep you content, you are fortunate in so many ways and it is important to be thankful for what you have, because as we all know you never know when you will lose it.

9/11 will never be forgotten and once more, to all those who passed in the horrible tragedy, may you all rest in :peace:

ah ic

this could help alot of people here, its helped me:

These days, we tend to communicate via the keyboard as much as we do verbally. Often, we're in a hurry, quickly dashing off emails with typos, grammatical shortcuts (I'm being kind here), and that breezy, e.e. cummings, no-caps look. It's expected. It's no big deal. But other times, we try to invest a little care, avoiding mistakes so that there's no confusion about what we're saying and so that we look professional and reasonably bright.

In general, we can slip up in a verbal conversation and get away with it. A colleague may be thinking, "Did she just say 'irregardless'?", but the words flow on, and our worst transgressions are carried away and with luck, forgotten.

That's not the case with written communications. When we commit a grammatical crime in emails, discussion posts, reports, memos, and other professional documents, there's no going back. We've just officially gone on record as being careless or clueless. And here's the worst thing. It's not necessary to be an editor or a language whiz or a spelling bee triathlete to spot such mistakes. They have a way of doing a little wiggle dance on the screen and then reaching out to grab the reader by the throat.

So here we are in the era of Word's red-underline "wrong spelling, dumb ass" feature and Outlook's Always Check Spelling Before Sending option, and still the mistakes proliferate. Catching typos is easy (although not everyone does it). It's the other stuff — correctly spelled but incorrectly wielded — that sneaks through and makes us look stupid. Here's a quick review of some of the big ones.

aw but see some of us here are conspiracy theorists, agree or not, to us, their is no bin laden, and Saddam never did have any "weapons".

leaving the only person left, is us, we destroyed that building ourselves.

because of the sick, and horrible thought, it makes one feel...hopeless.

mankind....is a joke. their really is no point in mourning anymore when we cause deaths on purpose.

at the very least you can agree on this, being in Iraq is doing nothing but causing deaths so the point is still valid i feel. we brought it on ourselves, why mourn?

just watch the roadrunner cartoons and see that death is a joke that is told even to kids.

i know i have joke countless times about people dying and had a hearty laugh. now 3000 people in a flaming building is a terrible event

but fuck man it was a while ago about 1/10 of your life ago.

yes you are gonna die too! and i find that hilarious.

just think that by age 21 you have lived one third to one fourth of your life and maybe you will start getting death jokes.

"Least we forget" means just that, don't fucking forget. Not "make a point to talk about it on the day it happened every year" or "don't make jokes about it because being uptight, sad, and serious is the only way to deal with it."
People are gonna crack jokes about it, first off it's a great way to deal with grief, second off being serious about shit all the time is lame, especially when it's relatively in the past.

reverence for a catastrophe or death is self-indulgent crap, and when I find someone (IRL) who feels the same way that AG Tek and a few others do, I then really try to offend them.
I took some LSD at about 5pm the day before 9/11 and as I was laying down to try and sleep, a friend busted down my door exclaiming that the WTC was hit by two planes.
The first thing me and my buddies did was smoke a bowl and try to get a drop on the 9/11 jokes.

Just because someone finds comedy in that which you find sadness doesnt make you a more caring person, nor does it make them an asshole.
Everyone wants to connect themselves in some way to a tragedy, because people like drama.... perfect example is this thread: you guys could have let the Smiley go without derailing the thread, but you wanted to assert yourself, mood and opinions, onto the actions of other people.

Another problem I have with the "No laugh zone" people, is that they believe death is relative. Somehow, in their mind, a person dying from a jet ski accident is less morose and serious than a person dying in 9/11. Death is death... I want to ask the "no laugh zone" people, how many times have you snickered at the Darwin Awards?

Not because they are a different culture, they were celebrating the attacks, they obviously could give two squirts a piss about us. Why should we lose any sleep over them? (This thread had 26 more posts in it then when i last seen it so im kinda late :/)

so i take it your referring to the bin laden tape when they was listening to the radio when it happened and laughing?

or was it some other news clip from cnn that i missed?

and how does the biased news our country produce, justify putting them all into one group/culture?

us the people, have no freaking clue what we've done to other country's. honestly i would prob be celebrating it if i was them to.

and my point is they are innocents dieing right now too....everyday we are slaughtering them over their but nobody cares....why does nobody care? is it the news? or because they are "different". or just 2 fair away to care about.

I agree with that. As for the celebrating you mustve missed all the arabs or whatever they are burning the usa flagg screamin and hollerin havin a good time on 9/11. Why arent we celebrating killing them like they did us? When they kill us, they celebrate, when we kill them its wrong even in alot of our eyes. Really im not for the war, niether am I against it.. BUT, imagine if this war was the other way around, us being invaded by them, do you think they would give a shit? Nope theyd be celebrating and partying that we are dieing.

what the fuck is wrong with you people? this was a thread about having a bit a sympathy for the people that have lost loved ones on 9/11 and has been completely derailed. the war in iraq has nothing to do with the city workers that lost their lives trying to save other's lives.

feel free to start your own "Bush Sux", "Mourn the Iraqi Dead", etc threads. those threads will all be true and worth a read, but to mock the dead is wrong. parody and satirize the event and the leaders that handled the event inappropriately, but never mock the dead.

Have you people mocking the dead never lost a loved one? or even lost a dog? suffered any hardship what so ever?

i kinda feel that those of us posting through all this are "kinda" on the same page.

but i also feel that those just jumping in are gunna feel like automan.

as someone pointed out earlier, joking is a form of healing/mourning sometimes.

we all need to be open to everything, and accept other peoples thoughts, and views.

the thread was orignally derailed because someone didn't understand that at first, and then everyone jumped on the wagon to derailing farther.

I think it was a good discussion, even if that wasn't the purpose.

But again, this is a vaste community, you can't expect everyone to sit in a circle and cry together in teh same way,

an extreem example as i pointed out earlier with my quote, a tribe might embrace death, and see it as a beautiful thing.

we shouldn't section of this thread to just those that cry in a circle with candles "so to speak"

After typing in here I went looking for that celebration on youtube and couldnt find it... I did watch a series of videos which is very interesting. They were running drills that morning of 9/11 of hijacked planes hitting towers. And then bush says they were not ever expecting something like this. Check this video out im puttin part 6 in here that explains what I said above.

Earlier in this series they talk about how there were bombs in the buildings that helped them fall.

This should be on topic, its about 911.

Strange coincidence today.

We were in the Hiroshima Peace museum which is located right under where the a-bomb went off, listening to one of the survivors talk about that day.

Strange day to be there, and the speaker said it as well.

It makes me sick that we are wasting resources and our troops blood on these people.  I actually hope for a situation where the Sunnis and the Shi'ites and the Jews and the Arabs in general all go to war and kill each other off.  Then we could go over there and suck all of the oil out of the ground and be done with it.

Actually Japan is a great success story. We occupied them and managed to help them build up into a democracy, one of the great industrial nations, and the second largest economy in the world.

It all worked out in the long run with our occupation of Japan. I have a feeling that Iraq will not end on such a positive note.

Six years ago was a crazy day for me. I remember everything about it with crystal clarity. I remember hearing the "clap" of the first plane hitting, from the 14th floor of my college dormitory. I remember seeing a flaming hole in the first tower. I remember going to breakfast thinking a commuter plane had gone off-course and hit the World Trade Center. And I remember being evacuated from my classroom 30 minutes later and finding out both towers had been attacked as well as the other two planes that were hijacked. And I remember most of all trying to film the burning towers at the intersection of Bowery and Lafayette, and my camera battery dying right before the first tower fell, fell with an eerie silence, 30 blocks away from me I watched it sink and I watched dust and smoke rise to take its place and a chill washed over me because there was no sound - there was no sound to validate what I was seeing with my eyes. Just a silent tumble, a quiet subtraction from my sacred skyline. A terrible, unforgettable day.

Fuck the people who instigated it, fuck the people who became paralyzed by fear from it, fuck the government who used it to push it's insane agenda, and fuck the fact that we still need to feel remorse and talk about it six years later. 9/11 will be remembered as the day the beginning of the end happened for the United States.

I feel nothing but anger towards Americans about 9/11

I agree 100%, how sad. I assume most of the people reinforcing humour as a mourning tactic on this thread have never suffered a major hardship of a lost loved one, and is the reason for all the childs play. This thread almost has a way of showing true colors of some of the people on this thread, and just how immature they are, and can be.

How many people died instantly in Hiroshima? 70,000? Another 60,000 followed them to the grave in the next few months. How many of those were "innocents"?

You know I saw a movie last night called "The Insurgents". One of the characters had this to say about the subject of "insurgents":

Quote:
The first man to die in the American Revolution was a black man. Do you think the British called him a hero? Hell no. He was an insurgent. So were the founding fathers...and so are we.

Wouldn't you agree Bush has way to much power to "institute new government"? So why waste breathe, time, and effort for that cause?

American colonists armed with hunting rifles and such won a war against the highly trained and strongly disciplined military of an empire that spanned the globe... and the Hessian mercenaries.

In a more modern context (with modern weaponry), Fidel Castro led a revolution with a force of only a few hundred men, against a national army thousands of soldiers strong. Who is now in charge of cuba?

Standing armies never have and never will have an effective strategy against Guerrilla warfare.

Sure they're important but it's all connected and it's because of those 3,000 that this country and it's citizens are being raped of rights and privacy while this country is running rampant all over the world murdering and invading without just cause. Yeah sure it's sad that those 3,000 died but fuck those 3,000 if the last six years were the results.

I think I've mad my stance on this perfectly clear.
Death is not relative.
I do not feel any more effected by the deaths of those that died in the World Trade Centers than those who die every day because of starvation. I don't know any of them, so I honestly don't care.
For people to expect me to be upset about it and to mourn their lives is ridiculous in my mind.

That's my point though, Americans aren't intelligent enough to comprehend two different emotions or thoughts at once so it's time that this country gets over this 9/11 bullshit and start dealing with the bullshit being committed in it's name. Think about American philosophy. Everything is either good or bad. Churches and religion are good and always will be. Drugs are bad and there's no positives too them and they always will be. The Vietnamese and communists in general are soulless robots who do not care about families. There are terrorists how to get us because they are jealous of us. This entire country from the late 1800s on has been founded upon a pure black and white John Wayne like outlook on the world where most of the people and the policies with which it lives by cannot function or understand anything but good or bad. In essence fund and aid and give tax breaks to the good or kill and jail and steal from the bad. That's the way America works. I appreciate you trying to put words in my mouth but America has gotten to where it is from bombing and manipulating those that stand in the those whom control the government's way. The only problem is the world and some of America's own citizens are advancing past the "Fuck 'em or Kill 'em" black and white philosophy which is making the government and those that control crack down all the more. Which is why Americans aren't intelligent enough to comprehend two different emotions or thoughts at once. So... America and the majority of Americans can go fuck themselves.

By the way, I was born and raised in Seattle.

a few jokes to lighten merkins mood

A Iraqi kid died and went to the heavens, the first thing he saw was a giant tree , after asking a nearby angel, he knew that this tree represents the faith of mankind, a leaf fell, he asked what is this? the angel said: A guy in the USA named Jeffrey Thomas has just lost his faith in God. another leaf fell, he asked again, who is this? The angel said: A guy in Japan named Oi-Wun has just cursed God. A few minutes later, there was a giant rumble from the tree and a whole bunch of leaves came tumbling down...Panicked, the kid asked: What is this? The angel said: Electricity went down in Faluja and everybody cursed God

One day a fat Iraqi guy visits a sausage factory. He sees this big machine where you put in the cows here and get packaged sausages at the other end. Amused, he asks the owner if they have one where you feed it sausages and get cows in return. The owner looks at him at says, "well, that's your mother!"

A Iraqi gets a golden dental filling, sleeps in a safe.

A Iraqi finds the Magic Lamp and gets a free wish:
- "I want you to free Palestine," he tells the genie.
- "That's too hard, ask for something eles."
- "Then stop people from making jokes about us."
- "I'll just free Palestine!"
