cap; 1-2,1/2 inch, dark blue, green tones, sky blue, brown, burnt cream to a near white, blue stronger on smaller specimens, some what fragile, striped lines on cap near margin, some humped, some flat.

gills; free, close, whit on small, cream white to brown, to rusty brown.

stem; 2-4", 1/4th" to 1/8th" thick, white, blue and brown tones, fibrous, sock shaped base, with blue bruising, stronger on smaller specimens, dark blue inside base, mycelium white.

spores; a dark rusty brown

The gills and spores look rusty to me, not a touch of purple to be seen.

Also, are you sure about blue bruising on the stipe? If so, can you please provide a photo??

I did not really understand the substrate/habitat that these were found, but anyway, I'm thinking a Cortinarius or maaaaybe Conocybe.

I see blue on some of the stems, particularly the little one.think he means they were under a cleared brush pile growing on wood chips in a sandy area.

trigger:soft woods again?

there was defiant bruising, the color of bluing seems off for an active, but really curious!! yes soft wood with some hardwood mixed in, they were growing from soil on thick wood mulch.

Oh, defiant bruising you say?  Did it boldly resist your attempts to bruise it?

So wait, was the soil on the mulch, or was the mulch on the soil?  the latter seems more likely...

I think it is a Cortinarius. Please post a picture of some pins so we can see the cortina.

Yes, but the cap doesn't look like a Conocybe.

Wow..... Thats nothing like I've ever seen. I will have to lean towards Conocybe as well, but it doesn't seem to fit any species I am aware of. It definately needs to be examined microscopically.

Looks like a pluteus, the darker print doesn't, but the mushroom does.

You can see obvious blueing on the stem and cap in http://www.shroomery.org/forums/files/07-37/949366790-blueothers_063.jpg
