My Spiritual World

My Spiritual World In the literal sense, I am a materialist, but in the traditional sense, most would describe me as a nutcase. I consider myself spiritually materialistic, or, more specifically, instead of using superficial deities to fulfill my philosophic need for a creator, I choose to apply the powers thereof to the material world. For example, rather than believing that our world is the material, and god’s world the spiritual, I believe in one, unified existence where both coexist in supersensory harmony. I have only recently begun to prescribe to this notion, in part, because religion does not adequately fulfill my curiosity about our world, and also because of my own “meditation” on the matter.
To me, the material world consists of two parts, the world which we can perceive, and the world which we cannot. Science manages to explain the former very well; however, it can only take the perceivable world and look downward into smaller and smaller units. The latter of the two, the unperceivable, is much more complicated. Our senses can only pick up a selected set of sounds, colors, and any number of other unknowable waves that may inhabit our sensory world. What is beyond our perception remains a mystery. Entire senses may be lost to the human race, just as we cannot utilize the special senses of lower animals, echolocation, thermal vision, and electroreception, just to name a few. I believe that the world we cannot perceive is just as material as the one which we can, and that it is possible for one to cross the barrier of perception if the right conditions are met.
Ultimately, everything is filtered through our senses. So, to observe the unobservable, one must remove the filters. This has become the goal of many a lifetime, and there are as many approaches to achieving this level of consciousness as there are traditional religions, possibly more. Whether one is a Tibetan monk, a Native American shaman, or a traveling Dead Head, one has the same goal in mind, breaking through to the other side. Such a lifestyle is, to some, one without merit. Regretfully, the people of our time are much more focused on perceivable, material goals than intellectual and spiritual wealth.
In summary, I believe that while we do live in a material world, we are only skimming the surface when it comes to our perception of this place we live. Any number of undiscovered realities may exist just beyond our perceptual reach, only surfacing at times to pique our curiosity. Perhaps ancestor spirits, UFO’s, and self-transforming machine elves (a la Terrance McKenna,) are not as immaterial as we have come to believe, or perhaps not. Human perception is far too limited to say for sure, but I personally choose to maintain agnosticism toward those possibilities rather than simply shutting them out.

I agree with you completely, I just wouldn't be able to explain it as nicely as you. You are not a lunatic, you are just paying better attention.I always question how many people can live out every day of their entire lives without wondering...questioning life and the unknown.

"I am an atheistic mystic. "
I used to be a nauseous agnostic, quite often.
