Patriots = Spies?

Just saw this article on Boston.com
Hope it turns out to be untrue.
http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2007/09/signals_in_focu.html
NFL security confiscated a video camera and its tape from a New England Patriots employee on the team's sideline during Sunday's game against the Jets in a suspected spying incident, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported today.
Asked about the report, a Patriots spokesman said the team had no comment. The spokesman said it was an internal matter.
The story was first reported by Scout.com.
The ESPN report notes that the NFL's competition committee could hold a conference call on the matter. The NFL's competition committee includes Titans coach Jeff Fisher (co-chairman), Falcons general manager Rich McKay (co-chairman), Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, Giants executive vice president/CEO John Mara, Lions general manager Matt Millen, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome, Colts president Bill Polian and Panthers president Mark Richardson.
http://jets.scout.com/2/677745.html
It’s no secret the Jets and Patriots are two organizations that aren’t on the best of terms. And after the stunt the Patriots reportedly pulled at the Meadowlands on Sunday, the relationship might have just taken a turn for the worse.
According to a Meadowlands source, a member of the Patriots organization, with a credential issued by the team, was spotted by Jets security chief Steve Yarnell shooting near the New York bench.
And according to the stadium source, when questioned by Yarnell, the unnamed individual said that he was put up to it by the Patriots.
The cameraman was reportedly accused by Yarnell of shooting the Jets' signals that were being sent by the coaches from the sidelines.
The source says that the NFL is being made aware of this accusation.
If this is true, the Patriots could be subject to a serious punishment from the league office.

This is pretty astonishing. It reminds me of Watergate. McGovern had absolutely zero chance of winning the election but the mutts from CREEP couldn't help themselves and had to pull a third rate burglary. Morons. If Bellichek had anything to do with this I think a four game suspension would not be too harsh at all.

I agree Zappa. I hope that it turns out to be a mistake, and that the Pats organization didn't put the guy up to this, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. Somehow I can't see Bellichick having a part in this - he seems like a pretty hard working stand up guy. Maybe I'm wrong though. If it DOES turn out that the organization was behind this, they should be punished severely, that's fucked up.

Wow - this really doesn't sound good for the Pats.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3012989
"The league's competition committee could conduct a conference call about the incident, which violates NFL policy, and ultimately recommend a penalty that could cost the Patriots a future draft pick or picks if it verifies that the team was spying on the Jets.
"It's not their first time," a member of the committee, who did not wish to be identified, said.
In fact, Green Bay Packers president Bob Harlan confirmed a similar incident that occurred when the Patriots played at Lambeau Field last Nov. 19. The same cameraman who was questioned by NFL security on Sunday was also the one whom the Packers removed from the sideline and escorted from the field during their 2006 game, according to Packers security official Doug Collins.
"From what I can remember, he had quite a fit when we took him out," Harlan said. "We had gotten word before the game that they [the Patriots] did this sort of thing, so we were looking for it."
Jeez

Bills it is. I can tolerate the Giants but I fucking hate the Jets. And it has nothing to do with their success or lack thereof against the Bills. I just think Jets fans are by and large loud obnoxious retards who are the leftover dregs of NY football fans who couldn't latch onto the Giants. I was at a MNF game about 20 years ago when the Bills were slobberknocking the retards and there were all these fights all over the place and bonfires of paper hats. I was wise enough to tell my out of town friends to leave their Bills shit home and to keep their heads down and their mouths shut.
Sorry OLF. Hey, you know why they have that J-E-T-S chant? It's a spelling drill.

Not for nothing, but Bellichik is just about the only person who could use the information.

I don't get what you mean by that - you mean because of the Mangini/Bellichick history?
I guess I'm going to try to reserve judgment on this until more facts come out about what was on the tape, and if in fact that organization put the cameraman up to this....but it definitely doesn't sound good, and I'm disappointed at what I'm reading so far. With all of the talented players that the Pats have, if they are doing this, it's stupid, because they can win on ability, not classless bullshit like this.

Ah yes, the infamous Pumpkin game.
One of the proudest moments in Jets history. I still have my Campbell's soup hat, which were given out before the game and a lot of them burned during it:
As the evening progressed, a change in crowd emotions became apparent, when during the second quarter the Bills' offense repeatedly overpowered the Jets' defense. More heckling than cheering now echoed through the stands as fans voiced frustration with their team's dismal performance. The crowd booed the Jets defensive unit, and several times they chanted: "Joe (Jets coach Joe Walton) must go, Joe must go." By halftime, spectators started to exit the stadium as the home-team Jets trailed by 31-7. Following the half, a few fistfights broke out among young male spectators, commanding more crowd attention than the one-sided football contest. The score had run up to 34-7 when the pumpkin incident began late in the third quarter. In an end-zone lower section, the attention of neighboring fans centered on one male spectator blowing into a giant inflatable pumpkin. Bright orange, it appeared to be about four to five feet across and two feet high, sporting a yellow jack-o-lantern face. As the man puffed into the pumpkin, people nearby chanted, "Blow, blow, blow," which quickly drew the attention of others surrounding the area. Spectators in ever-widening circles then picked up the chant. By the time the man fully inflated the pumpkin, a large proportion of the stadium's spectators had focused toward that direction, since the pumpkin was clearly visible from most seats. When inflated, its owner tossed the pumpkin into the air.
-----
Security eventually took the pumpkin away and that is when people started lighting the hats and seats on fire.

You are suprised a team named the Patriots were spying on people without their knowledge? Need I remind you about NSA wire tapping? Its that on a small scale.

dude this could take away all kinds of credibility from their 3 superbowls as well.
You never know, but they very well could have used this type of espionage to win their 3 rings.
