Police Caught On Tape Threatening To Destroy And Invent Evidence

http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/19/1961.asp
video, audio and transcript are all on that link
Here's the story:
Quote:
"Missouri: Police Threaten, Detain Motorist for Parking After Hours A St. George, Missouri police officer is caught on tape threatening to invent charges to arrest a motorist for parking after hours.
Brett Darrow videoA motorist who refused to discuss his personal business with a St. George, Missouri police officer was threatened with arrest last Friday. Brett Darrow, 20, no stranger to unconventional encounters with police, caught a St. George Police Sergeant named Kenline stating that he had the power to invent charges that would put Darrow behind bars.
"Try and talk back... to me again," yelled Sergeant Kenline. "I bet I could say you resisted arrest or something. You want to come up with something? I come up with nine things."
The incident began at around 2am. Darrow was to meet a friend who was working late and was going to pick him up. Darrow headed toward a 24-hour commuter parking lot in an unincorporated part of Saint Louis County in his 1997 Nissan Maxima. He put on his turn signal and entered the lot which, aside from Kenline's cruiser, was essentially vacant. After stopping the car, the police officer approached and began questioning Darrow about what he was doing. When Darrow declined to discuss his personal business, the police sergeant exploded. Although the video clearly shows Darrow driving properly and using his turn signal, the police officer insisted that Darrow had broken the law.
"Oh, while you were coming towards me you were swerving back and forth within the roadway," Sergeant Kenline said. "I might give you a ticket for that. You want me to come up with some more? When you turned in, you failed to use your turn signal, your right turn signal."
Without the video, Darrow points out that he would have stood no chance disproving the officer's word in court. Twenty-eight percent of the St. George municipal budget comes from traffic citations. Darrow wonders how many of the tickets were legitimate.
"Looking into this guys eyes, he was crazy," Darrow said. "I was really scared he was going to assault me. I just wonder how many other people have been arrested on these charges."
After ordering Darrow against the car and searching him, Sergeant Kenline released the motorist."

There's only one thing that the kid really did wrong in the video. If you're parked in a commuter lot at 2am .. it is a bit suspicious. The cop fucking with him was totally unreasonable and reserves a cactus up his ass, but he should have given the cop a little slack from the start. What the fuck do you expect a cop to do when he sees someone sitting in the only car in the entire parking lot at 2am.
Now the other video they showed of the DWI stop in the middle of the road.... he was full within his rights not to tell the cops where he was going...
but c'mon.. 2am.... middle of a commuter lot. Let the cop do his job and just tell him you're sitting there waiting to pick up a friend.

I like how he started backtracking towards the end after the reality sunk in that he was being taped.
There's a link to a SECOND video in that story where something similar happened to the SAME KID not too long before. He totally pwned the cops if you read the transcript. At the very end he pointed his camera at the cops out the window who were looking back.. almost in a "nya nya nyaaa" kinda gesture and then took off..
Fuckin hilarious. Too bad the fucked up his car.

> If you're parked in a commuter lot at 2am .. it is a bit suspicious.
Around here, it is illegal to talk on your cell phone while driving. Assuming I was needing to make a call, and I saw a lit public parking lot, I would pull over in the lot to make my call. This is a bit suspicious, how, exactly? Only if you already have your mind made up that I am doing something illegal.
Was there a no trespassing after dark sign? Was there a closed gate? Nope. If you are going to call what the guy did wrong, then you have to call being out after dark wrong. I can't imagine that you are advocating curfews in order to appear non-suspicious?
I usually defend police, as most of them are decent people. This is an example of inexcusable behavior by an officer that is sworn to uphold the law, to protect and to serve the public. He violated his oath, and for that, I have no forgiveness or respect. His ass should be fired. Can you imagine an employee of any other occupation retaining their job after treating a customer like that?

Youre right... by saying that it's suspicious that someone would be out at 2am in a commuter lot (a place very susceptible to crime at night) all by himself and that a copy should take a look to see what's going on.. must mean I'm advocating curfews. Because they totally mean the same thing.

Notice how the cop immediately claims he's doing something illegal, strange I recall hearing about something like innocent till proven guilty.

I guess our forefathers wasted their time on that whole, right to speedy trial, innocent before proven guilty.
When I was a witness to a murder ( I reported human remains) I Immediately became the first suspect, even though the murder occured itleast 2 or 3 years ago, this countries justice system was more coherent during the old west.

Do you people just hear what you want to hear? Or did you totally miss the part where I said that the cop deserved to get assraped by a cactus?
And I don't know about you guys. But I think if a copy sees someone sitting in an empty commuter parking lot (a place largely susceptible to crime in the middle of the night) by himself at 2am in the middle of nowhere he has an obligation to at least take a look or else he wouldn't be doing his job. Did I ever say that anyone sitting in a parking lot at 2am is automatically guilty of anything?
I don't know about you guys, but when I was younger, the times where I was out at 2am in the middle of nowhere by myself or with someone else... I was pretty much up to no good :P

Cops lie all the time! I had one cop, I mentioned it a couple weeks ago, how he pulled me over and lied and said I was speeding and I had to bring up on the GPS system the speed I was travelling and flatout told him he was lying. I'm much more of a dick than this kid... that cop was just way out of line.
Knowing me though I'd have threatened to ruin his 20+ year career as a cop for excessive force and violence towards innocent civilians, and said "go ahead and arrest me hardass."
Cops don't really know the law as well as they like to say they do. Lawyers are better suited for those kind of threatening words.

Someone should start selling camera's to install in regular cars for situations where people get pulled over and want to easily conceal a camera to record cops abusing their power.
Nowadays it seems like you need one.
