Please neeed some help ... :)
    #7391832 - 09/10/07 12:46 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

Hello , I'm first time grower... I received my MycoJars and I inoculated with B+ strain. It was 3 weeks ago and by now they should be ready but they are not... The whole bottom and top of the jar is covered with mycelin but the sides are not.. very strange because i remember that i read somewhere that the sides would be covered first and then the bottom.. The mycelin looks good completely white without any mold.
I noticed that the sides of the jar are covered with drops of water..could that be the problem?? I keep very good humidity (live in NY  )and temp.
Can i start fruting before the whole thing is covered with mycelin? I dont want full production.. I just want like 10-15 shrooms from the 6 jars.. what you think? is that possible before it's 100% mycelined? Please help this is my second attempt and i dont want to ruin it again.... Thanks in advance i'm waiting for ur answers
PEace

water is normal on the sides of the jars.

do u have anything covering the holes on top?

dont birth them until they are 100% colonized!

Well, yes a have cotton balls covering the holes. but i already waited tooo long and the bottom and top are colonized already. What's going to happen if i start fruting before it's 100% colonized? Thz

i would take those cotton balls off they harbor bacteria.

do you have the four holes in top of your lid and a protective verm layer? if so remove the cotton balls!

its fine for them to start pinning a little bit prior to birthing

what temp are you colonizing these guys at? room temp is just fine. and i read that you said your humidity is good. you dont need to worry about humidity while the jars are colonizing thats only when you have them in the fruiting chamber

yes it's room temp around 75-82... humidity 60-70%. I keep them in a box in dark place..I think they don't have 4 holes... I purchased them online MycoJars.. and the only thing they have is cotton ball on the top, through which i injected the B+.. I really don't know what to do I injected the strain at 22th today is 9th.. so it's long time ago. Can i start fruiting. What's ur advice ? i think i can make a picture if u gonna be here in 10-15 min... thanks

that is a long time, i still wouldnt birth them until they are fully colonized though. youd just be asking for contams then... and all of your work would go down the tube. i would still take those cotton balls off and if you dont have that top protective layer cover the holes up with some micropore tape.

ok after i take the cotton off can i put aluminuium sheet to cover the jar? bro i think it wont colonized at 100% because it even didn't started on the sides u can only see the bottom ant top fully colonized. I don't really know what to do. I will go now and get the cotton off . any other suggestions?
Thanks alot blood4blood

no, that would be worse than the cotton balls. when your jars are colonizing they need gas exchange in order for this to happen. and your not getting enough, and thats prob why they are stalling. so after you take the cotton balls off they need to be covered with something breathable(tyvek, micropore tape) if you dont have that top protective verm layer. if you do have that layer on top of your jars the holes can just be left open

so probably there is not enough gas exchange... and that's why it's not colonizing on the sides of the jar? so it's not dangerous to leave them open?it's a small hole.... can cover the holes with coffee filter?
thanks

polyfill is synthetic wooven poly fibers that work great as a sort of a filter. you would be able to tell the difference between cotton and polyfill. they put polyfill in your pillows

heeeeyy good news i just opened the box and one of the jars (that 2 days ago i shaked) is almost colonized  now i shaked all of them hehee and yes you are right it's not cotton ) i shaked them a little bit i hope it's gonna work. how to recognize when it's 100% colonized? take a look at the picture thanks
and there is another thing. i was keeping them in a box and i put paper on the top of the jars, so it would be darker maybe that was the problem. no pictures sorry
