Ive been reading about this plant and want to grow it...
Does anyone know under what conditions does it grow the fastest?
And i was trying to make a blow gun out of some bamboo in my backyard...like bear grylls off of man vs. wild did...and it didnt work because between each piece theres a hard core that you would have to drill through! How the hell did he do it...different plant?

bamboo has many different kinds of species and if you just wanted to make a blow gun you should have just went to a local arts and crafts store they sell hollow bamboo sticks

Im sure his crew just drilled it out, just like they help him with building the raft, repelling off of cliffs and chasing 'wild' horses that they bring in.
Bamboo can get out of control and be a bitch to get rid of.

to make it from an type of wood you'd have to split it, hollow and smooth it then rejoin the pieces...

Bamboo can invade your entire yard and refuse to go away.
That shit will destroy a garden if you don't stay on top of it. As for making a blowgun out of it, you have to bore it out. There are wooden walls on the ends of each little chamber or segment of the bamboo.
A friend of mine tried to make a bow out of bamboo once and I have to say the stuff is hard to work with.

depends on the species and how you grow them
they are very invasive of your grow space though so other plants might fall to the bamboo's might

I'd use a reed or roll up a large, waxy leaf.

Konnrade said: I'd find a nice straight hickory sapling and I'd cut it and let it dry, when cut in the spring or summer the bark comes right off, after it dries it'll start to split down the length, use a large knife to aid it along on this natural split, it's pretty easy
you can use a nail to scrape away the center, just hammer the nail flat on the end, fix it to a handle for comfort and sharpen/shape the flat end, use it to scrape away the center, to rejoin the pieces use wax for a sealer/adhesive and wrapping every 6 inches with a sturdy twine will hold it well, learn of the knot technique called 'whipping'
that's great advice Konnrade
