Linux for audio recording?
    #7388247 - 09/09/07 01:50 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

anyone use ubuntu studio?

Is ardour good?

I've been thinking of switching to Linux but i do allot of audio production and i need decent audio programs.

I've heard Linux is better than windows because of things like not getting virus's and it's more customizable.

Do you have to type in code to get programs to work?, i don't mind doing that as long as it isn't too hard or anything.

Do you get better performance out of your computer using Linux?

the only thing i see being a problem is not being able to use vst plugins, or can you?

What about drivers for my soundcard? how is that going to work if the drivers i've got for my EMU-1820 are written for windows.

here is ardour:

here is the drum sequencer, hydrogen:

here is the software synth, zynaddsubfx:

your emu card is supported by linux. you do not have to use a terminal to start programs, but if you want to use JACK, you have to start it before starting your music apps.

it should load ndiswrapper to handle it for you.

how about you try it and then come in with questions of things that actually dont work. i will be more than happy to help you work through them
