mycobag - bruising or contamination? (pic)
    #7384749 - 09/08/07 05:25 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

Checked up on this mycobag that has been colonizing for a while now and noticed that there was this dark patch at the bottom right in the middle of all this mycelium. I can't figure out whether this is bruising (might have dropped the bag at some point) or contamination. Here's a photo:

Seems strange that contamination would grow in the middle of mycelium, but who knows. I separated it with the rest of the bags just in case.

Thoughts?

Ditto. Keep it isolated. It's hard to tell bruising from contamination in pictures. Best of luck to ya though. :frown:

Thanks for the feedback folks.

I'll definitely keep an eye on it and chuck if necessary. In the last 2 days it doesn't appear to have spread. I'll take another look in a week. I've got another bag going so I'm hoping that pulls through.

Looks like bruising to me. Was the bag set down on that part of the bag?

Sure was, but so was the other bad I had, which doesn't exhibit this. What causes bruising exactly? Full grown mushrooms pretty much bruise if handled at all -- what causes mycelium to bruise?

I tried poking at a couple of other spots to see if I could cause it to bruise, but nothing happened.

Any type of physical force causes bruising, including gravity upon a surface.
