Is there still hope? (PICS)
    #738380 - 07/11/02 05:34 AM (22 years, 10 months ago)

Well, today is day 10 since innoculation of Orissa India into PF cakes (BRF+verm). I?m wondering if maybe there isn?t enough moisture in there? They have been incubating at 78*-82* F in a dark place. Everything was pasteurized, sterilized, etc. Is this strain just wimpy as hell? Or am I just done for? It looks like there might be some TINY spots of mycelium growth. Maybe...
Here, take a look...

I?m cool with being patient, i just want to make sure that things are on track.
thanks. peace,
rafi

I would wait longer. Was your substrate possibly still hot when you innoculated? How did you sterilize your jars? I'm wondering if you did overheat and dry up some of your H20? I would smell once a week for contams. Whats the temp around the jars. I let my jars colonize in a dark place usually cool. They take forever.

I think I read that that strain is a slow colonizer...up your temps a little more and don't let it vary as much. And its hard to tell by the picture but that does look like some growth...

I thought I read about how the Orissa take a while to grow, but they grow big fruits. Maby thats why its taking longer. Someone else will know for sure.

do you mean just opening up the lids, and injecting through the layer of dry verm? where should it be injected? at the innoculation points or in the center?

Yo, u dont need to keep the saran wrap? or tin foil or whatever u have over the jars do you? Cause im growing now, and my jars have started growing after 3 days of innoculation with nothing covering the lids.

I would just leave the lid on and use the holes in it that you innoculated your jars through for the water injection:)

just out of curiosity of being a newbie, when you rehydrate with sterile water, do you need to sterilize the syringe that you are using? i would assume that you should but I just wanted to check.

And do most use distilled water or boil some tap water to use??

Thanks
