my first grow kit, psilocybe cubensis Mexican

Hi
I got my first grow kit, from an online shop, last Monday. (08.27.2007).
I soaked it for 24 hours, and put it in the plastic bag with 0,5L water in the bottom of the bag.
I then misted it daily.
Yesterday (Friday 09.08.2007)i noticed the first little pins, with red heads. I just had to take it out of the bag to get a better look. When I, very carefully, got it out, i noticed that the 3 - 4 pins on the top wasn't alone...
*CRAP*
There where quite a few pins actually, but the majority was located at the bottom of the cake. Growing down towards the plastic box with only 0,5 - 1cm of space.
hmm... what to do??
I took a quick look on the net, and saw that others, when the shrooms was e.g. growing out from the side, had cut the sides off of the plastic box. Or simply turned the box upside down, with the cake on top.
I couldn't just do that, because i didn't wast to mash the little shrooms on the top neither, but i had to do something. Cutting the sides wouldn't help either.
So my own logic solution was to take out the cake from the box. Then turn the box upside down, and place the cake sideways vertically.
I took some pictures of it, but i only have a cellphone cam ATM.:

Then after a few hour i was nervous that it would tilt over, as it wasn't very steady. I disinfected a flat knife and placed it to support the cake in the weak side. That worked like a charm.
Today (Saturday) i took some pictures again, and the pins are just popping out

the whole cake from the top

I just cant wait for them to grow big

wow, u could buy a pressure cooker for that much. you growing discreetly? I think its well worth doing a basic set up if you have the space and the money, say heatbomb and small poor mans pod will go along way. If your industrious or lucky you could do it for under 90 euro. Having said that im currently using grow bags. Got a good heatbomb tho and will do a full setup when i move in a couple of months. looking good btw, are you planning to dunk?
Peace AM

thank you
Yeah i know its a bit expensive, but its my first go ever. And i wanted to start out easy with a premade grow kit. I could have bought just the spores or a syringe for quite less money, butt couldn't be bothered with all that work, just to screw it up in the first go.
I dunked it for 24 hours to start with, and i guess i am going to dunk it again for 6 hours as the instructions says, when 1. flush is over, and before 2. flush.
The manual says to scrape the surface of the cake "clean" with a knife, and then dunk it for 6 hours, and then fruit it again for the 2. flush, and so on with the next flushes...
right??

thank you for the comfort, i needed that
I will put my nerves aside for a day or two and see how it goes.
I put some small holes in the side of the bag now, and added a small air pump with a tube going into the bag in the top. I plan to switch it on a couple of times each day to vent out the CO2. Maybe that will help growth...
I should not mist the bag anymore in this flush now right?

yea its looking good. my first kit (maybe 4 years ago) got badly contaminated. then went full out put down maybe £130 and completely fucked it up. Forgot to turn on the heater and they all got contaminated. At this point you could buy fresh mushrooms legally and it was really a business venture. you could sell mushrooms for £1 per gram (fresh). So now mushrooms have been class A (same as heroin) for 2 years and i desperately need some, will put up some photos if my bags take to life.
Good job on the dunking, im surprised the kit says to, mine doesn't. that will make a big difference. The pump is a good idea and you can keep misting as long as your not spraying on the fruiting bodies.

w0000t
They are really growing now!
There are quite a few aborts it looks like, on the bottom. But those shrooms did soak up some water before i turned the cake upside down i think. So it wouldn't be so strange if they aborted anyways.
But besides that, there are plenty of healthy shrooms growing, and man are they fast growing when they first set in...
I will post a few pics later to show, don't have the time right now.

I would think you would want to wrap the bottom of the container in something that will block all light .. so they will grow up rather than out sideways .myabe the bottom 3 inches or so .. just a thought

wehoooooo!
I just harvested the first flush. I was very much in doubt if I should pick them because they where not very big. So I took the box out of the grow bag and took a closer look.
Some of the veils where broken so i decided that it was time to pick them.
They are not very impressive in size, but it seems OK.
In my rush, i forgot to take a picture of the cake with all the shrooms out of the bag.
But I took one afterwards as they lied on a newspaper side by side:

I also took a few more: some of the biggest compared to an alkaline AA

I weighted it down to 120g fresh shrooms, witch i guess is about 10 - 12 g of dried shrooms... its OK for my expectations for my first flush, and first grow kit for that matter.
I "cleaned" the cake by scraping on the surface with a clean knife, like the instructions say. And then i put it back in the box, filled the box with tepid water. Closed the lid, and put it in the fridge.
Thats about 10 minutes ago, I will let it be for about 4 hours, and then put it back in the bag.
I also wrapped tinfoil around the sides and bottom, and wrapped the bottom 1/3 of the grow bag in black plastic to keep out the light.
My hopes are that second flush will allow the cake to stay put in the box
