Over the last few years, a lot of shroomerites have been experimenting with poppies, poppy tea, etc. And I've noticed that a lot more of them seem to complain about opiate addictions now. Maybe its just my perception, but poppies have definitely become more prevalent among the drug culture these last few years and it doesn't seem to be doing us any favors. If you have an addictive personality, I'd stay away as best you can.

It really depends on the person and how often you use.

it does depend on the person, and everything revolving around them. but all opioids/opiates are generally very addictive substances. from my own experience i wouldnt recommend anyone try it, but some people can handle it, yeah. a lot cannot though.

It is just opium. That substance is what opium is. Opium isn't like a morphine or a codeine.

for me personally, i have a habit with other opiates, but poppies not so much...i never had an urge of making tea every day. if i make a strong batch, drink up and get sick at the end of the night... i have no urge to do opiates for a long time

Poppy tea makes me sick thinking about drinking it. I do about once every two weeks, drink a small amount of tea, 2 poppy heads, and it gets me so smashed I am puking sometimes, and that is enough to ward me away from every day or even every week use.
However I have a friend who drinks 10-15 of the same pods a day, and has formed quite a habit.

Since the subject was brought up I'd like to ask a question. I have seen the black tar-like stuff. Seen it put in the bowl of a bong and smoked with weed. Is that made from the milky stuff secreted from the pods? I know next to nothing about this stuff.

As to opiates, I've only tried heroin, once, and as far as I know substances, that one certainly is addictive. I stay away, and, looking to some of my friends, I recommend the same to everyone.
Best regards, ivi

Very.
Opium is very addictive. And the sneaky bit about it is that it feels totally benign most of the time, until you are quite substantially into the habit.
If you smoke crack chances are that when the vial is done you are craving more. That gets you thinking.
With opium, nothing seems wrong at all, until you cut down one day and discover that YOU CAN'T.
A few years ago I said the same thing and one guy particularly attacked me for it. Later on I got a mail to the effect "if only if I had listened about that insidiousness". He started with a small hobby and got a big problem.

Yeah, I've never smoked it, but it must be like really good weed and you feel like you could just smoke as much as you want and not OD and smoke it as frequently as you want and not get addicted.

Nononono...
For many people smoked Opium is MUCH more euphoric and pleasurable than weed ever can possibly be.

Yeah, bad comparison. I know it's a totally different substance. But I just think that the act of smoking (really, vaporizing) a crude substance like opium give speople the pot-smoking mentality — and pot's a drug you can use very liberally: any dose, as much as you want; people get their hands on opium and go "Wow, this is like weed but 20x better!!!" This is my new drug!!!

The thing is opium is weak compared to stronger opoid alternatives. Even allot of the pharms are stronger like oxycodone etc.. Herion forget about it. The problem with the opium is the opium leading to stronger more addictive substances imo.

Usually people are very confident that they have opiates under control. Quite often a few months or years later it turns out that this wasn't so.
It took Thomas DeQuincy nine years to get addicted to laudanum, but then he was quite addicted for the rest of his days.
After his Confessions of an English Opium Eater he got back on opiates again and didnt kick it.
