DOES THE TYPE OF LIGHT REALLY MATTER?

I have not found much on here regarding the type of lighting to use. I have been using a black light with success. I mentioned using this type of light on a thread and got some warning about not using these mushrooms to make spore prints, and that a grower had developed an albino through using a black light.
So, being new to all of this, I found this was way over my head.
Can someone with experience shine some appropriate light on this subject?
Thank you,

I remember recently reading a thread in one of these Mycology forums where someone took various light sources and did some experimenting. Black light was the worst option if I remember correctly, I believe he said the fruiting was smaller and slower than with the other lighting (wish I could remember the name/poster of this thread...) Get yourself a small fluorescent, or better yet, just use ambient lighting. Its not like they need light to grow, only to tell them what direction to grow. Only a minimal amount of light is required for that.

Wavelengths between 400 nm and 500 nm are most effective. Get a small fluorescent fixture, go to the pet store, and find a bulb with peaks in that range. Otherwise, expose to diffuse sunlight or just put a grow light up.

Fluorescent lighting is great. Look for a color temperature in the 5,000K to 7,000K range. UV light is bad for mushrooms. RR

i currently use a natural sunlight bulb it's a compact flourescent from wal-mart (they about the size of a regular lightbulb only heavier) costs like 10-15$ for a two pack i got a five-finger discount
they work terrific!
for some reason i use like 16hours light and 8 hours dark but also i turn my terrarium so that each side gets a day in direct light and the other in shade
this seems to tend to make spiral mushrooms curly-q mushrooms amuse me so much
