The NL Central (a rant)

Gotta say that whoever wins this should just not even bother showing up for the playoffs. Does anyone want this division? Cubs and the brew crew getting wrecked by weak teams (and I don't want to hear about how weak teams are dangerous)
I don't care how much of a cubs fan I am, I enjoy good baseball. I feel like the asian dudes in "Major League"..... These guys suck!!
Had to rant.

I am going to be so pissed if the Cards stumble into the playoffs again. I hope it's the Cubs. I've been throwing my wild world series prediction all over town and I need it to at least have a shot at coming true - Yankees vs. Cubs.

It's going to be the Nationals and Devil Rays next year you know. At least you didn't expect anything from the Cubs. As a Braves fan I had my expectations shattered.

Watch out for them Braves next year, if they can find some solid arms for that rotation...I mean Smoltz is getting older, so is Hudson, but if they perform again next year like they did last year and have some good arms backing them up, then that lineup with Teixeira could be nasty.

I blame the last two seasons on Mike Hampton. If we had him we could definitely get the wild card. Hudson-Smoltz-Hampton-James-Cormier isn't a bad rotation for next year if they all stay healthy and with Renteria, Chipper Jones, Andrew Jones, McCann, Francouer, Kelly Johnson, Teixeira, Matt Diaz(<-why hasn't he been given a chance to play everyday I don't know) and Braves could be awesome. I really think Smoltz will do fine next year.

Andruw Jones won't be around next year.

Yeah, that is true. He is having a really bad year. Who knows. I mean he must have some sense of loyalty after being on the Braves for over a decade.

No way man, with Boras as his agent? He wants money and the money he is gonna ask for (think of Vernon Wells' recent deal) despite this bad year, no way is the new Braves management gonna shell that out.

You're probably right. That is too bad. I liked watching him play.

Maybe the Cubs can give him $100,000,000 over a few years and then he too can help them stumble through a pennent chase

I want to defend my team so bad.
But really, what can you say?
Every other day, we're just terrible.
Even when we do win, its an edge of your chair nightmare.
Tonight's just concluded game for example. Zambrano was lights out, we had 5 up to the 1 of the lowly Pirates. And then Zambrano walks them loaded in the 7th, Marmol loads 'em in the 8th, and everyone goes crazy.
Jesus, this is nerve-wracking.
But I dont care how we do, if we make the play-offs, its on.
I dont care what anyone says, Baseball playoffs are an absolute crapshoot. And if you dont believe that, you haven't been watching baseball very long, because last year was a classic example.

Agreed. Man, I don't know what the ump was looking at but that back door slider was sexy, and then Z paints the outside and gets nada.
I must say though, I was concerned when I was watching the last game that he pitched and Wrigley booed his butt cold after he got touched. Z isn't the strongest mentally. But he changed it up, came back lights out, and then thought better of ripping the ump and trashing the dugout.
I think that is a HUGE step in his maturation process, and if we have him dealing like he was tonight, we'll be setting up just fine.

And down by 3 entering the 9th inning, so in a few minutes the Cubs will be within .5 again.

I hear you ALL. But you can't just turn it on and off. The Cubbie's have been messing with 5 games over .500 since June. I don't just want to make the playoffs, I'd actually like to watch them win. And if they're going to do that in the playoffs, they'll need to step it up in the next few weeks. I think tonights game (as they all are right now) is big. Hopefully it's on WGN.
Later.

I've been a cubs fan all my life and I will stick with them until the end. Fortunately the playoffs are the playoffs, the game changes when you are playing for 5/7 games instead of 162...

Oh yeah, I'm not jumping ship either. This is only my 23rd summer following the Cubbies real close, but I think I'm starting to get impatient.

Impatient?
Christ, I wish I was impatient.
I'm a nervous wreck.
