Habitat: new front lawn southern B.C. Canada

Gills: whitish and brown

Stem: tan to brown

Cap: gold to brown

Bruising: changed a darker brown

It could be Stropharia semiglobata or an Agrocybe species, or maybe even a Panaeolus.

What color was the spore print?

I dont have one but the inside of the gills are dark brown and brown do you think its active

No one thinks it is active.
You need to take a spore print if you want a definitive ID. If you need help on making spore prints please read the FAQs.
This is a skill you will need if you hope to identify mushrooms (actually, the skill will be required even if you want us to identify them for you).
