CHEAP INJECTION PORT!

For anyone who is to lazy to go out and look for High Temp Silicone then I have a pretty cheap and easy solution for a self sealing injection port.
Take the erasors out of your pencils!
I had RTV High Temp Silicone but I was bored so I decided I would see if it worked. I first microwaved it for 10 mins to see if it was feasable then I just did it. I PC for 30 mins and it held up ... little mushy but it you let it cool it hardens right back up.
I took the erasor off my pencil Poked a hole with a screw drived that was slightley smaller then the diameter off my erasor Then just wiggled the erasor in to the hole
If you make the hole to big the erasor will slide through when inoculating
If you make it to small you cant get it in there
If the hole aint perfectly circle then there might be small leaks
Its a pain and takes a few trys but I'm sure theres plenty of peopel that cant get a hold of high temp silicone. I did it for my expiremntal super easy microwave LC using house hold supplies ... stay tuned for that tek.
Also if you have leaks in the injection port dab some hot glue over it ... the glue will melt in the pc but it redrys when you cool your jar.

Sounds like the start of a nice idea... Maybe cutting a big eraser into a circle and putting it in a hole a little bigger then the erase circle. That was the sharp edges of the hole on the lid cuts into the erase side holding it in place.

bicycle puncture repair patches work well enough for a few runs,if you scuff the top to provide a "key" on metal or plastic lids. as does an old inner tube cut to size and glue over the hole.again, "scuff" them up just as you would if you were repairing a puncture. i put alcohol soaked micro-pore tape over the inoc point after the second use though, for added security.

I still have to toy around with the idea to perfect it but it seems to work so far.
As far as mulitple uses ... I dont think I would feel safe using it mre then twice but its not like people dont have pencils laying around. It only takes seconds to switch them out ... the hard part is making sure the hole is the right size but once you do that your all set.

I love inventions As an asside though, you can just use 'normal' silicon, you just have to make sure it cures completely before you PC.

Agreed, and RTV is probably the best gear for the job.

'Normal' silicon, which is much more widely available, can be PC'd provided it has cured for 24 hours.

The only reason I tried it was becuase I was about to PC my LC but I had left the RTV in the trunk of my brothers car. I was thinking of what would work and pencil erasors did.
RTVis definitly better and vial stoppers are even better but this is a cheap solution for people who dont want to drive to home depot.

THIS DONT WORK
after using it I found out erasors get brittle in the pc and when you poke the needle through it it leaves hole and when you push the needle in it creates a sliver of erasor and leaves it inside the jar
thought it was a good idea but after trial and error I realized it waasnt
