Chicken of the Woods Dotted With Tiny Green Spots

Hi, I just found this chicken of the woods specimen growing from a stump and ripped it off like an amateur because I am one and after examining it found it to be dotted with green. Is it a bacteria? Does it bruise green? Is it even chicken of the woods? It looks like it. Anyways, thanks.

this should probably be in the mushroom hunting forum, but it doesn't matter too much.
I've never known a chicken of the woods to bruise, my guess is it's most likely a mold of some sort. pics?

Take some pictures please. I've never heard of chicken of the woods with green spots. However its possible it could be some other kind of polypore. Depending on how big of an amateur you are it could be anything from fragments of moss too your imagination. Lastly if it was a dead tree/stump, I find it really hard to believe that it was actually chicken of the woods. The only chick's I've seen where fruiting from live tree's.

Was it growing from the soil line? I saw some chicken like mushrooms growing on the ground, duller and more brown, I figured it was akin to Chicken of the Woods.
The pictures above are mature chickens.

No, it was up off the ground growing from the recently cut face of a tree stump.

chickens fruit from dead wood, stumps , and live/dead roots as well. The cinncinatus variant specializes in roots around here. As far as the green spots....most likely mold....chicken mushroom doesnt bruise like that.
If it bruised black it could be meripilus giganteus?
the duller brown chicken is actually bondarzewia berkeleyii

thats a chicken alright....not sure what caused the discoloration. if you eat it just eat a little the first time. some people get an itchy or tingling sensation in the mouth from chicken mushroom. not me...and they are delicious.only eat the soft waxy parts....the fibrous older parts that slice a little harder arent very tasty.

99% sure thats a chicken, however the coloration is much lighter than i am used to and that green shit is most likely a moss, mold or bacteria or whatever. i wouldn't eat it, it's early in the fall season still there'll be plenty more if you keep your eye out.
like someone else already said try just a small bit from the edge your first time to make sure you won't get sick as some people do.
the older sections are tougher to eat, the younger ones and the edges are primo bbq'd on the grill. I make everyone i know try just a couple small bites their first time i introduce them to this delightful mushroom, they always come back within a week to try again, except one friend that got a stomach ache from it last year. I have succesfully converted 7 people from being anti mushrooms to avid gourmet fans using this one as the starting point. It works well, because it looks tastes and feels just like chicken, once you show them that not all mushrooms taste alike they'll try oysters, morels, hens, and others. all of them but one eat button mushrooms from the store now too

I fried some up last night. Pretty tasty. I just sliced the small green areas off as they didn't run deep. It wasn't nearly as firm as real chicken, but was still tasty none the less. Then again I only cooked up the really soft parts. I still have a lot more to cut through. Thanks for the help guys. That was my first wild mushroom.
