I dont know could be. I have a 20 gallon tank and after about 7 days noticed black contamination, i stuck my nose to the crack of the lid and it smelled pretty strong. If it doesnt smell i wouldnt think it was but you definitely want to keep an eye on it. later

if it is only some kind of darker spot and if the mycellium keeps growing over it, and if your jars dosen't smell, and if your shrooms looks normal after harvesting i'll eat them anyway...

it's a lot of "if"...

Contamination...hhmmmm. Hard to say. Although what your expecting should look like tiny red (sometimes may look brown) heads. If I were you I would keep a very very, close eye on this. If this turns any other color, then cut it out with a knife that has been steri. Also if it comes down to this, becareful not to move the cake to much. You might cause spores (the bad ones) to move around the in the air. Couldn't hurt to use a little H2O2 (hydrogen perox.) mix in with your water mister. Spray very lightlt though, and not directly on your cakes either. Good Luck!!
