Disappointing Salvia Experience

I recently bought some 5x salvia extract from a vendor on a boardwalk. I decided to try it today and was going to have my friend with me. We went to a nearby creek so that I could smoke it. I packed a small bowl because i was pretty nervous and i had never tried any hallucinogens before. I took a hit and held it in for thirty seconds. By the end of the 30 seconds i felt a strong buzz but i did not actually hallucinate. I had a fixated stare and some of my surroundings appeared to be stretching but i was well aware of what was going on. After not hallucinating yet i took another hit and still felt nothing. My clothing also felt extremely uncomfortable. The buzz wore off after about 45 minutes and i was disappointed not to have any visuals. I decided to try salvia again after my friend left and i was alone. This time i packed a larger bowl and smoked it in my room. Soon i felt this intense rushing feeling and my skin felt very prickly. This made me quite paranoid and i layed down so that i could calm down. I still had no visuals and the feeling wore off after about 15 minutes this time. I really want to have some visuals and i have been wanted to try shrooms for a while now. I would like to know if shrooms are more mellow or if they are just as intense as salvia? I would also like to know what i can do to have visuals on salvia.Maybe the extract isn't strong enough?Or maybe the salvia is fake? I will post pictures of the salvia i have soon.

5x isnt that strong but you cant smoke it like weed. light it long, hold it in long. make sure to always have a direct flame to the burning salvia as you inhale too, and inhale deeply and long. and take all of your hits within 90 seconds otherwise your body will metabolize it too quickly.
you had a failed salvia experience. i know how you feel, i've had quite a few of those. you feel like you're about to blast off or get near but you never do. but trust me, theres nothing like the actual salvia experience. it's unlike anything, ever.
theres a huge difference to what you felt and salvia. expect to be catapulted into an amnesiac world of infinity. it really is an incredible experience. a little spooky too, but incredible nonetheless.
it's a "psychedelic bitchslap". you'll realize once it works well. next time, try 15x-20x. thats what i use.
and good luck, good friend!

I hope you learn really soon that visuals are a nice aspect of tripping, but generally pale in comparison to how much more you can get out of tripping.

yup, i agree.
also, "visuals" on salvia are not quite what you may expect - although i can't imagine what you were expecting, since you say you haven't done any hallucinogens before.
from the effects you described, it sounds like you scratched the surface, but didn't really experience salvia for what it's really known for. The good news is, you probably aren't a hardhead, since you felt the beginning effects.
I would suggest skipping the street vendor and going with a site sponsor, and picking up some 5x-10x standardized extract for a better experience.

If you are looking for visuals Salvia has them in spades but isn't the kindest deliverer by any means. Lysergicide's advice is good if you want to experience Salvia. The visuals are not the point though. You don't just get visuals. Thoughts, feelings, and perceptions are a bigger part of any psychedelic experience.
Let's use a TV for a metaphor. Visuals are what you get looking at the thing. You would do better to prepare yourself for getting sucked into the screen and actually becoming for a while, something you saw on the screen before. You may forget for a while that you really are not that something, yet... you are in a way and you may see how that is too.
Salvia will not tell you much about how shrooms will feel to answer that question. They both make you trip and an experienced tripper can find the similarities but one doesn't really clue you into the other.

you probably got some poorly extracted salvia or something. get yourself a nice standardized extract and try that. like everyone else said, the visuals are going to be beautiful and intricate but they are not the only aspects of the salvia experience. be careful not to take too much to soon as that can be a dreadful experience for most. do it in a quiet, dim lit room or a peaceful outdoors location to start with. rid yourself of all expectations and you'll have a blast, just dive in with a clear head and an open mind.
