It's probably just algae and it happens to everyone. It won't hurt anything.

You usually get Algae on the surface from it being wet and humid the entire time for weeks. Very green and thick, but I've never noticed much smell from it. I suppose it could be mold, but I've never had any problems with it.
A fungicide could be applied in a VERY diluted solution by soaking from the bottom, I suppose. Better wait until someone who's done it chimes in. I've just scraped it up before avoiding the seedlings...it's thick like scraping scum from a concrete wall in a ditch.
Mold may not even hurt if that's what it is.

Wow, man! You've got a nice fuzzy colony there!
TTJ, here's the only pic I have ATM of a seedling tray with some in it. It's usually completely covered with the bright green you see a few spots of here after about three or fours weeks. You can see where the original colony is piled up in the upper edges from scraping it up when I pulled the seedlings to do grafts.

Eh, just what you'd expect wet, algae laden soil to smell like I guess. Kinda like an aquarium that needs cleaning?

if its moss or algae it wont do any harm, u could scrape it up if u wanted to or just leave it...
however if i smells bad, it might well be mold... if so, get some fungicide in a sprayer and blast it before it consumes your seedlings.
should be pretty easy to tell the difference between mold, algae and moss.

generally its a good idea to soak your seedling medium with a fungicide before u sow the seeds. prevents damping off and possible mold at a later stage.

I read that I could just dilute hydrogen peroxide to 7 parts water 1 part hydrogen peroxide and that that would kill the mold and not harm my cacti.

that would depend on the concentration of the h2o2 solution u started with.
i think 3% is the recommended concentration of the final solution for killing off fungus... although thats from memory so u will have to check for yourself.
