Hola - Workman,
I have 4 bags colonizing/fruiting of your lovely philosopher bags with mex strain a. Three out of the four bags are fully white and forming stones heavily. One bag is 60% white and forming little sclerotia.
These bags were all innoculated on 6/28 - I was wondering would it be better to wait 3 months for harvest instead of 2?
Also why is one bag not as far along as the others - All I did was innoculate each bag with 2.5-3 ccs of spore solution and I placed them back into the shipping box. Taped it up put it in the corner of my room and left it there for 2 months, the temp in my room is around 75-78 degrees so they should be ok but sometimes when its hot it cna reach 80-85 for around 6 hours max I dunno its fucky temps in here but the crops grow fine, regardless.
Also I stole your little recipe (thank you so much for that by the way:) I was wondering do sclerotia need to be dried out first for the bars? And how much do you think 1 3/4 cups is, maybe I'll get that much from 1 bag?
And lastly whats the potency will one sclerotia bar be a good trip, how potent are these?
Thank you amigo and sorry for the excess in questions as I am very anxious at this and excited. I'd like to thank sporeworks most of all you guys are great I won these bags from your phil bag contest awhile ago....

I have no idea why one out of 4 of your bags is lagging.
You can harvest anytime you see enough sclerotia to satisfy yourself, but longer is better.
The no-bake cookie recipe uses fresh or rehydrated sclerotia. I don't know exactly how much sclerotia is likely from a bag, but I doubt you will get over a cup. You can 1/2 the recipe to compensate. You will need to weigh the sclerotia to estimate potency per bar. There is too much variation in weight when measuring by volume to get a good estimate. Try to get 5-10 grams fresh per bar. You also need to mix the dough/batter well to evenly spread the sclerotia and cut each bar at the same size and count the bars carefully. Good luck.
One last note: Save some of the tiny sclerotia to seed fresh jars of grain. Cleanly harvest, rinse in H2O2 and drop into sterilized jars of grass seed to perpetuate your crop at little additional cost.

Editing time has expired so I'll have to post the final results at the bottom of the thread.
Day 92 - 10/1/02
The bag is getting distorted with large sclerotia pushing out on all sides. Recent growth seems to be fairly rapid but I am tired of waiting. I want to see what's inside after 3 months.
A naked Philosopher's Bag. I was as careful as possible not to break off the sclerotia but some weren't even attached to the main mass. A few sclerotia were just hanging on the surface of the bag. I put the loose ones in front.
167 grams of fairly clean fresh sclerotia from the above bag. The large protruding sclerotia were easy to harvest, but the smaller ones were more troublesome. The substrate is very sticky inside and small sclerotia was time consuming to harvest. Most of the sclerotia formed on the outside edge of the substrate with very a very few small ones inside the substrate block.
Sclerotia is about 30% dry mass so the 167 grams should yield about 50 dry grams or 1.7 dry ounces.

It's only Ps. Mexicana and i think Ps. Tamapensis? The scletoria loving species love rye grass seed from what i hear.

How do you collect spores from this fruit? Was it an isolate you innoculated with?

You would fruit them and print them the same as any other mushroom.
