Lol, this is funny.

I am pretty sure I know what your saying, but you really aren't articulating it very well.

In my opinion your completely missing the point anyway.

These people are mentally insane because they aren't actually happy. They are broken. You shouldn't be happy all the time because you wouldn't even know it. Your ability to be happy is completely based on juxtaposing your current situation with a situation which is less desirable.

If all your talking about is bliss (a feeling sometimes caused by happiness) then you aren't really talking about happiness. These people are in fact insane because feeling bliss all the time is a symptom of a malfunctioning brain.

If your definition of happiness is just experiencing a particular brain state then I would suggest looking a little deeper, since bliss and euphoria are not actual happiness.

Plus once you decide what true happiness is I would suggest trying to figure out if it is even something to strive for in the first place.

Think about that.

This thread also probably belongs in the philo forum, but Im not an admin so I don't actually care.

Just a thought.

i agree^^

it all comes down to how you define it.

"Your ability to be happy is completely based on juxtaposing your current situation with a situation which is less desirable. " perfect

and yes i have trouble turning my thoughts into words. so i just write everything i think which is normally jibberish.

sometimes gets the message across

Coming down from DMT.

And i know what you saying man.

Edit: It relates to the whole psychiatry thing... they classify billions of conditions and in the way they are correct but incorrect at same time.

I am tripping out, goodnight.

Quote:

retrospect said:
yeah.

realistically to have tru happiness and function in society is what you describe redpoppy.

but thats societies views of true happiness and im not the biggest fan

but like shroomiegirl said it depends how you define it

and believe me i know how lucky i am.

society's view of hapiness?!

WHat does it come in a manual somewhere? I'm sorry but you're sounding like an angsty teenager. Actually I have no idea how old you are but if you're a teenager then thats cool. things get easier when you hit 20-22.

define happiness for yourself. Strangely (dun dun dun!!!!) homosapiens tend to be very similar in our needs and wants. Not exactly teh same but very similar. SOme people think they "Need" designer handbags. they're wrong and mislead.

I would say if society gives you a bad concept of happiness its that: social status and buying things = happiness

Not:
"find love friendship and a comfortable sense of self and try and help others". i don't know which society you live in but if thats the overriding message society is trying to push on you then you need to listen up.

as for "functioning in society" what would you rather do? Sure society is messed up but its a reflection of the people in it. OOF! i could rant abotu these things for ages but I'm just hoping you're a teenager and not some 30 year old stuck with a teenage philosophy.

i saw a guy in a mental home. locked in a room. just smiling.

a few hours later i go past again. hes in the same spot... still smiling.

i see him again a bit later, he is outside, looking at the roses. smiling.

i think all i was trying to get at, is there are people out there who are happy 24/7, ok blissful 24/7 if you want to call it.

and they are probably the only people in the world who will never experience suffering. be it a malfunction in the brain or not.

i base society from people at school and work. they are happy as long as they can get drunk tonight or have their designer handbag as you mentioned

if i was defining happiness for myself. realistically it is friends, family and understanding. a big part of it would be seeing the best in every situation.

and yeah im a teenager.

Sorry man now I sound condescending. *hugs*

life is difficult when your'e a teenager and yeah I understand what you're saying about lacking suffering.

but happiness is what YOU make it. just like love is. (which is convenient beacuse the two are linked many times, quite essentially due to the loving yourself part of happiness)

but happiness is more than just an emotion. People who are ONLY able to experience happiness the emotion and nothing else are most probably locked up. because they simply aren't fully functioning and reacting human beings. If someone comes along and stabs your child/brotehr/sister/mother etc. and you smile there is something worng with you. Its not rocket science. you're simply not well. Mental illness is just an illness and peopel recover many times now (as medicine starts to leanr more).

however you can be utterly sad, angry, disillusioned etc. and still be deeply happy.

I'm happier than most women who have a designer handbag. :P because to me pretty things are great but don't define me as a person. Not to say i'm not a sucker for a vinatage dress goign sheap on ebay but I just know my worth and self esteem is not wrapped in material things. (well ignoring things like food and water, shelter etc.)

Actually Good God you've just reminded me how sh*t it was being a teenager. I remember it with fond memories and wish I could go back and relive it at times but i remember all teh angst and it sucked! haha! sorry but i'm just laughing at a teenage me. I was ugly too. The one time in my life being pretty would have REALLY helped and God was just like hell no, not yet.
