First time with petri dishes!

I've had petri dishes for some time now, but had only used it once to make certain that contamination was probably from a local vendor who sold me a bad syringe. I sat there and was thinking..... "Hmmmmm, I have 12 spent O.I. syringes just sitting in a bag in the drawer. I wonder if I could make one syringe out of what is inside the 12 others?"
So I PC some distilled water and decide what the hell, I can use my New Home Made Flow Hood and see how good she is. I did all the work inside the work area of the flow hood. Sucking up sterilized water from the 1/2 pint jar and putting it into a Large sterilized shot glass. I flamed the needles each and every time before sucking water. I did manage to make a syringe with lots and lots of little black specs floating inside. I then transfered a few little drops here and there and waited a few days. Well a few days later this is what resulted. Is it O. I. Myc or contamination? Either way, I'm about to do a transfer to another petri dish today.
 this was taken today.
By the way, this is an updated pic of the flow hood. I had to add some freaking light to it! I was going blind trying to work in the area with only the room light. If you missed the original thread of my flow hood, here it is. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7349699#7349699
What do you think? Did I salvage 6 month old "empty" syringes? If so, This might shed some new light on those empties laying around! I'm sure someone else has done this before, I'm just a little excited about the possibility.

Got some good mycelium growing there. Get your transfers going to run away from any contamination in the syringes. Aren't flow hoods amazing? It makes sterile work so friggin easy its a joke. You can work with open petri's without hassle or rushing or being paranoid. Enjoy your new, more rewarding level of the hobby - working with petri's! Now you are in control and it opens a whole new world.

Thank you so much! I can't hardly wait! I have 4 F+ syringes on order. They should be here next week. This experiment trying to revive old syringes is just a bonus! I really wasn't planning on real success. I feel like a kid ready to open gifts on Christmas morning! Ha! Ha!

Hah, I know how you feel. Next thing you know you'll be buying a microscope and be a full on mad scientist :-)

Because I have been down this road before, my young padawan. hehe
It leads to a huge collection of expensive cool stuff you can't show anybody. Building a flow hood is the first sign of addiction, now you are obsessed and it won't end there!

So long as there isn't a crack pipe at the end of the road I'm ok with this addiction / obsession. I've seen quite a few of my friends go down that long long disgusting road of self destruction. Can you imagine me hanging out with a person who shoots up? I'd be like.. "HEY! DID YOU FLAME STERILIZE THAT NEEDLE BEFORE PUTTING IT IN YOUR ARM!" Nope, wouldn't work out for me. Hehe

  This is the transfer.
This is the sum of 12 old syringes. Perfectly re-hydrated and lots of floaties. Guys, this thread is really dedicated to the idea that those old spent syringes could be put together and yield one good syringe. With patience that one syringe could yield a couple of BRF cakes and produce the nice flush that cold allow you to refill all the other syringes once again!

I'd keep transferring at least twice more. Take a tiny piece of each of those growths and transfer to new dishes. Transfer pieces from a petri dish no larger than a grain of rice to other dishes. The idea is that one or two might contaminate, but if they're separated early, the rest are usually fine. One more transfer usually ensures a clean culture. RR

Thank you. I will definitely do that! OH, and sorry about calling metabolites "PEE". I felt kind of stupid when you stated that Myc doesn't urinate. I got sucked into the terms used by some of our members. I was actually pretty damn good throughout college Biology, and chemistry. I should be somewhat more respectful of the science. Once again, sorry.......won't happen again. The shroomy 1
