What would your soul look like if you could see it?
    #7356056 - 08/31/07 01:29 PM (16 years, 7 months ago)

Mine is a large white sheet hanging on a line. It's clean and fresh and the stains are removed. It's bright and comforting to feel. That's moi. How about toi?

An american flag. The white as pure and unstained like the glory of God. The red for the blood that was paid on the cross for my sins. And the stars that He controls in the sky and the nations around the world that I'm connected to through the grace of the Lord.

Do you think that it is wise to associate politics with religion and equate one with the other? Americans are now in the middle east overseeing the oppression of hundreds of thousands of people. Is your God cool with that?

I stand in a country where though I'm not arrogant of what's going on in the rest of the world, but I also realize this country was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs. I didn't mean to equate religion with politics. In fact, I just picked the first thing I saw in my surroundings. Does that make it wrong? I don't think it is. Christ belongs to all people.

Yeah?
I didn't ask anyone to die for my sins, I don't wanna thank anyone for dying for my sins and I do not recognize Jesus as my savior and I repent for nothing.

And on a side note, you made the connection between religion and politics because there IS a strong connection between those two: repent and listen to god which is speaking through your form of govt. How convenient :smirk:

Wrong. That is a common misconception based on the ignorance of American history. The founding fathers were quick to separate church and state in the laws so that religious freedom was granted to all...not the anointed Christians only. Many of them were Quakers and not Christians in any sense. Our founding fathers intended that all people be given the same freedoms regardless of religion.

I agree. I never consented for anyone to take responsibility for my sins, so that concept is a moot point. Jesus can take care of his own sins and leave mine alone.

Of course...God is ALWAYS on OUR side which makes us right, but which side is OUR side?

Quote:

Whoever we are
Wherever were from
We shoulda noticed by now
Our behavior is dumb
And if our chances
Expect to improve
Its gonna take a lot more
Than tryin to remove
The other race
Or the other whatever
From the face
Of the planet altogether

They call it the earth
Which is a dumb kinda name
But they named it right
cause we behave the same...
We are dumb all over
Dumb all over,
Yes we are
Dumb all over,
Near n far
Dumb all over,
Black n white
People, we is not wrapped tight

Nurds on the left
Nurds on the right
Religous fanatics
On the air every night
Sayin the bible
Tells the story
Makes the details
Sound real gory
bout what to do
If the geeks over there
Dont believe in the book
We got over here

You cant run a race
Without no feet
n pretty soon
There wont be no street
For dummies to jog on
Or doggies to dog on
Religous fanatics
Can make it be all gone
(I mean it wont blow up
n disappear
Itll just look ugly
For a thousand years...)

You cant run a country
By a book of religion
Not by a heap
Or a lump or a smidgeon
Of foolish rules
Of ancient date
Designed to make
You all feel great
While you fold, spindle
And mutilate
Those unbelievers
From a neighboring state

To arms! to arms!
Hooray! thats great
Two legs aint bad
Unless theres a crate
They ship the parts
To mama in
For souvenirs: two ears (get down!)
Not his, not hers, (but what the hey? )
The good book says:
(it gotta be that way!)
But their book says:
Revenge the crusades...
With whips n chains
n hand grenades...
Two arms? two arms?
Have another and another
Our God says:
There aint no other!
Our God says
Its all okay!
Our God says
This is the way!

It says in the book:
Burn n destroy...
n repent, n redeem
n revenge, n deploy
n rumble thee forth
To the land of the unbelieving scum on the other side
cause they dont go for whats in the book
n that makes em bad
So verily we must choppeth them up
And stompeth them down
Or rent a nice french bomb
To poof them out of existance
While leaving their real estate just where we need it
To use again
For temples in which to praise our god
(cause he can really take care of business!)

And when his humble tv servant
With humble white hair
And humble glasses
And a nice brown suit
And maybe a blond wife who takes phone calls
Tells us our God says
Its okay to do this stuff
Then we gotta do it,
cause if we dont do it,
We aint gwine up to hebbin!
(depending on which book youre using at the
Time...cant use theirs... it dont work
...its all lies...gotta use mine...)
Aint that right?
Thats what they say
Every night...
Every day...
Hey, we cant really be dumb
If were just following gods orders
Hey, lets get serious...
God knows what hes doin
He wrote this book here
An the book says:
He made us all to be just like him,
So...
If were dumb...
Then God is dumb...
(an maybe even a little ugly on the side)

Were you there to see what really happened or even if Jesus existed? Do you have any other proof to sustain what you're saying, other than the good old bible?
Why should I believe a story than I don't resonate or identify with, and which above all, it doesn't make any sense?

You don't own it. Threads go where they will. At least now the thread is more fit for P&S instead of the Pub which is where it should have been posted.

Your universal atonement theory means that many people are in hell that Jesus atoned for. So what did the atonement accomplish? Absolutely nothing, according to this blasphemy.

The atonement actually justifies completely, and guarantees salvation for those whom it was intended for.

Those who receive Jesus will be saved. But what does receiving entail? It is simply a belief of the testimony of scripture regarding who He is and what He has done. For those who believe in a universal atonement, they have never received Jesus since they do not believe the scripture regarding His work. The have a jesus who atones for everyone, yet most go to hell. They have a god who accepts the works of sinners when it comes to justification. But God can not accept anything from a sinner, so this is impossible. They have a god who tries and fails, and begs and pleads, and is frustrated almost all the time. This is a false jesus, those who believe in this "jesus" have never received the real Jesus and are therefore unregenerate.

Well your soul doesn't just have to exist to the sense of sight does it?
I would think my soul has a texture, scent, taste and sound as well.

I'm thinking a cardboard box covered in comforting light brown fur. It would smell like ozone and maybe resonate a droning bassy echo.

*Pair of ducks- Totally awesome concept! I actually mentioned that mine was comforting to feel as well so I guess I entered this realm without realizing it.

Now smell...no question...mine smells like patchouli oil. lol

Oh, and I was thinking that something need not exist to have an image. I'll ask any of y'all to describe a dragon for me.

Personally, I enjoy having a soul. Soulless means like Zombie or something right? EWWWW!

*See the comedy routine by the Marx Bros. Why a Duck? I takes off on the word viaduct which was supposed to be some sort of mock-Yiddish I guess.

my soul radiates and reverberates different intensities of energy that can only be felt and seen with one's eye's closed. An ever-expanding geometrically infinite energy that dances like yin and yang around my essence.

"But what does receiving entail? It is simply a belief of the testimony of scripture regarding who He is and what He has done."

Sure there is not a little more to it??

Mine??

White Hole

"white hole horizons ostensibly recede from any incoming matter at the local speed of light, so that the infalling matter never crosses. The infalling matter is then scattered and reemitted at the death of the white hole, receding to infinity after having come very very close to the final singular point where the white hole is destroyed. Ignoring the classically unpredictable emissions of the white hole, the white hole and black hole are indistinguishable for external observers."
-wiki

"A more recently proposed view of white holes posits consideration to a revision of the standard model of the big bang theory which states that the big bang is an explosion that happens within a black hole, with the expansion that follows the traditional interpretation of the big bang, expanding into infinite space inside the black hole. In other words, a miniature universe is created at the core of the black hole, which expands into extra dimensions outside of this universe. The expansion taking place in this new miniature universe, if it could be perceived from an observer from this universe, could be looked at as a white hole. Matter that could not escape the intense gravitational pull of the black hole in this universe is instead sent speeding into the newly expanding baby universe. Using that logic, one could assume that our universe itself is a white hole. Hypothetically, this model could be used to explain the increasing rate of expansion of the universe: as matter from our parent universe is engulfed by our parent black hole (the black hole that created our universe), our own universe is fed this matter which could possibly have something to do with dark matter and dark energy, which currently is thought to contribute to the increase in the rate of our universe's expansion."
-wiki

BackFTD- That is an awesome pic you posted man...love it! I'd like a poster of that on my bedroom wall...but come on...45 year olds don't put posters on the wall. Okay, I'll frame it...then it's mainstream and acceptable right? ha. I draw ripples and cross over patterns like that when high. The universe is full of them. sound waves over lapping. Ripples, Spirograph. Anyone ever do that? It was a pre-computer pattern maker.

To Y'all:

X-tianity is not for everyone. It's not universal. It can be offered as one would offer food to the hungry but the hungry can eat from any plate. Some food..read: soul food, may be like peanuts to one who is allergic. Should one who enjoys peanut butter insist that it is universally good for all?

There are so many ways to express ones soul. Many are already tried and it's up to you to decide if true. Those methods of connecting to the spiritual that speak to your soul are the ones I feel one should pursue. If organized religion is not for you then I recommend finding some outlet for spiritual growth.

I feel strongly that something inside me would dry up if I didn't have any spiritual outlets, be it my art, my writing, my divine service expressed in acts of kindness/looking past my own needs to see what others need regardless of who they are/appear to be.

I connect with what I understand as a Creator in the ways of my fathers and mothers before me. I chose to pursue that as a young adult knowing that as time goes by I'd come to understand how much more there is to learn about myself and how I fit into the scheme of things/what I have to give.

Changing perspective, allowing for a paradigm shift and taking on regular daily obligations of action and speech or lack of speech which build and don't break, add and don't detract, is my personal and in some ways national challenge and I welcome my part in it.

I respect the choice to choose to believe there is nothing more to life than what you see. It is a choice. Remember that not all religion is a "just believe and you'll be saved" type. There are others. Many others. Old and fascinating. Ancient and full of wisdom.

One can research and reject or internalize and reflect as one goes along. To reject the concept of a divine soul or an afterlife based on the ill feelings one gleaned from forced religion as a child and reinforcement of this rejection in the halls of "higher" learning is a waste of potential growth and understanding of oneself and what ones role in the world of 'personkind' is, according to my opinion which I'll never claim is the absolute truth.

It's my opinion based on what I've discovered by living 45 years, traveling to live among cultures not my own and reading and researching other ways of thinking beyond what I was raised with/exposed to including those which reject the concept of a soul. The latter are surely not hard to find in N. American society. lol

Societal life can be weird but the actual earth life isn't if we let it be. Dig some earth and hold it in your hand. Continue to see the cycle and delve into the wonder of it all.

I wish you all health and peace in your lives however that comes to be in whichever way you pursue.

I didn't know that. I did know however, that all other nuts grow on trees/bushes that do not need to be replanted each year while peanuts grow close to the ground and need to be replanted.
So is it considered a seed then?
:thanx:

It is considered a legume, and the seed pods force their way underground to mature....

Back to the original theme...
I find it quite an interesting observation that so many people posted a view or picture or description of their soul that seems to be static, or fixed.
Yet, most of you have described life and experience as such an ever changing second by second dynamic.

Do you view the soul as static or dynamic?
I think it is vey much dynamic, changing with life, and views, and personality, and actions.

I'm glad you brought this up. Since we've expanded to include more of the senses, let's include movement.
Be aware that other posters have mentioned both vibration and expansion and I may have missed other descriptions of movement.

Okay, for me, my image of a "sheet" flutters in the wind. The wind that spreads seeds (and legumes for that matter lol) and circulates oxygen.

On a more serious note: I believe more of my soul is contained in my body at different times and part of it leaves my body at others.

We've mentioned feel...mine is comforting to feel, and smell, I picture mine as patchouli oil scented lol.

For taste I picture as w.w. bread that is light fulfilling and puts a smile on your face.

For sound...no question...I picture a "white noise" in the background of flowing water and in the foreground: Not Fade Away by the Grateful Dead specifically from the Hollywood Palladium show of '72.

So Shroomerites...give us the full five senses you picture for your soul. Movement if you can dig it and some adjectives, let's say three or so, to add "personality" to something beyond human personalty but it could be an exercise in self realization so let's do it.

Mine: 1) connected/connecting
2) a gift/responsibility
3) protected/protecting

very much dynamic. There may be some repetitive patterns for the time being but those patterns will change/evolve into new patterns. There's no rest but the work isn't tiresome for the body/soul has been workin' it for well... aeons for all I know.

Hmm.

Right now I'd say it looks like a (love)heart squashed by a big muddy footprint. But it's on the mend

Tommy Cat- Meorw! I like your PacMen. Colourful as a row of skeletons dancing! :peace: I saw a truck w/3 bumper stickers on it today. One had the row of colourful skeketons, one said: "Play Dead" and the other said "pray for whirled peas". Now that's whatcha call "Truck'in"! That's spiritual ain't it? lol
Too cute!
