Dropped wine onto my laptop, how bad is this?
    #7354523 - 08/31/07 12:51 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

I have a powerbook G4 15 inch and tonight a glass of wine somehow fell be side my chair and although the glass did not break, the wine, in a perfect arc flew up into the air and landed on my computer. It looked like it was shot out of a fountain and all 3 of us don't really believe what we saw, but here we are. I'd be pissed at myself but this is something my wife and I have done 5,000 times before without problem. Anyhow, there's now a small area of the screen that obviously looks like wine was spilled into it:thumbdown:

Apple doesn't open until for a while and I've never dealt with this before, can this be fixed? Replaced? Gonna cost me a massive amount?

What a day:eek:

i'm a computer tech and i know that you are fine less its already dead. just take out the battery. unscrew it and dry everything you can. put a fan over it for a day or so to make sure its all dry. then put the battery back in and you should be ok. don't ever turn it on when its still wet

Indeed, let it dry before you turn it on OR put the battery in. The keyboard has a built in splashguard under the keys. Although, a big enough splash will easily defeat the splashguard and leak into other components. Be wary, but without worry.

My favorites are weeping willows, which aren't really weeping at all. They're very wispy, witty and will dance in the breeze with you. Nothing like a tree that wants to dance with you. Although it doesn't like its thin limbs being pulled at all, it absolutely LOVES it when you walk through them, letting them gently slide over your face and shoulders. If you're naked, the willow considers it to be sex. It will orgasm on your mind and you will blow dream chunks into outer space. All very fun until your neighbor sees you.                                    -The Joekenorer

Crap. Here I am hanging out on it. Okay I'll turn it off and get a fan on it. Everything else is seemingly great, except for the wine stain on my screen. Should I open this sucker up to dry it out or should I leave that to a tech?

Powering Down

PS I just have to say that to see a half full wine glass fall 3+ feet behind a chair and to see a full and perfect arc of red wine rise to about 5 feet and then fall from the sky, while all the while not breaking the glass, but seemingly the laws of physics, was pretty amazing. And we we just starting.

There's a reason I drink.

Thanks guys.

My G4 has been to hell in back within a year and a half. Dropped countless times open and closed, liquid spilled, dust collected. Luckly I have a 3 year accidental coverage (which I havent taken advantage of yet). So far, my chassy is slightly warped, my tap button clicks on one side, My audio output is louder out of one channel and has to be wiggled into the right position. Other than, it's still a solid sound machine. These computers are worth every penny. I'm done blabbering now.

The screen shouldn't be too hard to clean.

Rubbing alcohol should get any stain off of it, then rinse with a damp cloth or paper towel (using distilled water).

just a reminder a computer tech usually charge $80 an hour. you should do it yourself first before you put out alot of money.
