I highly recommend you check out Inland Empire. It was just released on dvd recently, and it's probably the strangest thing you'll ever see.

No I don't, but this is one of the few films that I feel entirely confident telling you to just go out and buy. It's totally worth the $17; you won't regret it. They also have it at most video stores I do believe, in the new releases section.

Inland Empire reassured me that David Lynch is a pile of garbage. That movie is 3 hours of over the top way more than need to be confusing junk.
I can see how a david lynch fan could get into it, maybe, but I wouldn't recommend it for purchase.

It's certainly a film that divides audiences, but I swear, watching it alone in the dark with the volume turned up all the way was one of the most intense film experiences of my life.

I dont know what movies you are into, but watch Oldboy. I promote this movie to everyone, because it has the most jaw dropping ending ever in the history of movies.

Seriously the ending of oldboy is the most unexpected turn of events you could ever percieve in a movie. You'll wanna cry, laugh, be pissed, be shocked, go WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!? And no matter how much I tell you it will shock you, it will still shock you.

If it weren't for the French subtitles I'd be convinced I was watching bullshit.

Love Lynch. That clip definately felt like his stuff before i saw the end credits. Haven't seen Inland Empire yet, but i need to. Is that a clip from it or what?

Sounds like you haven't seen enough movies. I hold Oldboy in high regard overall, but i wouldn't go that far about the ending.

Are you fucking kidding? Movies are one of my passions in life, and I can honestly say I've never seen an ending that's grabbed hold of me as hard as oldboy.
Name a movie that pushes it further while still maintaining its graceful amazingness.

that was completely retarded.
i like a fair amount of david lynch, but when somebody goes way out of their way to be "weird" for the sake of being "weird" and "artistic" without any actual merit behind what they are doing, it makes me think, "thank god i'm not an art major"

^ Thank you very much, that's EXACTLY the way I felt through 3 hours of Inland Empire. There's way better ways to piece a movie together than to take 3 hours to put it in your artistic view. Mullholland drive was the same way, as wost lost highway.

You're not supposed to "get it." Lynch's films are like paintings; the concern isn't with a linear narrative, but rather with the ideas and images and sounds and the feelings that they create for the viewer.

But when the viewer sees that there isn't an underlying message to the whole scene then the absence of purpose and meaning is what the image speaks to the viewer. Once you realize that there's no actual story behind what you're seeing, you can only pretend that the obvious director-desired sentiments are truly present, and then you're lying to yourself. By not containing those actual feelings within the work the director is saying "well.. I'm kinda thinking of something that's like this, but I don't really know how to actually accomplish it," and in the end they're begging you to do all the work within your own head without having presented you with what they pretended to.
Instead of watching Jurassic park why not just think dinosaurs? It would save the filmakers a lot of time and effort, but you'd still have to give them the credit for suggesting the idea to you.
I think the 2 min short film says "scary stuff goes here." As soon as someone actually puts the scary stuff there, let me know. But how can I even be sure that it's supposed to be scary when no context was given for any of it... because I've seen similar effects in horror movies? Without the context of what was going on in those horror movies the effects themselves do not denote scariness.
An argument isn't loud noises, and scariness isn't a scream. Looks like... but isn't.
Sorry for my rant, I shame myself.

Different strokes for different folks. This isn't an argument I care to fight or defend. We will simply have to agree to disagree.
