first attempt at mescaline extraction
#7348360 - 08/29/07 12:41 PM (16 years, 6 months ago) |

Just purchased a 10lb san pedro cutting that has some fuzz balls and scaring which i think helps to increase mescaline content. Cactus tea is just too hard to stomach anymore so think prehaps i will attempt an extraction using Sodium Hydroxide and Xylene. Dose anyone know what i might expect to yeild from a cutting like this? ither way, i hope its good. Wish me luck. I'll post picks.

fuzz balls was the cactus starting to flower, and scaring does help boost the content but it depends, if the scar has been healed over for a year it still looks like a scar but the cactus mescal content goes back to normal.
i am curious on how this goes because i have a ton of pedro and i have been wanting to do an extraction lately, i just cant bring my self to chop down one of my cacti that i have been growing for ever:-)

OK, So i cut the san pedro into star cuts and dehydrated for about 2 days, then chopped into powder in a blender...
mixed about 1:10 ratio of Sodium Hydroxide and water in a jar and put the powder in to sit.. The water bottle is actually Xylene that i collected from work..
as you can see i have the necessary chemicals readily available.
and am currently awaiting the next steps...

How long is it?

I'd guess it to be like 4-5 feet...and it's already flowered...you should have sent that big one to me and I would have sent you a bunch of little ones...I hate to see a cacti that big die...I bet its at least 15 years old wouldn't you say?
Did you pick up the bananas and the San Pedro at the same place or what?

Be very careful, that lye will etch a glass jar and then you can have a very big(and possibly painful/permanent) mess on your hands.
"1.at least 2 glass or HDPE(should show a triangular recycle symbol with a 2 inside of it somewhere on the bottom) plastic jugs or jars. HDPE is preferred because strong lye solutions will etch glass and cause it to break eventually. I know first hand."

it wont be anything like that old... trichos can quite easily grow a foot or more in a season. look at the way the width changes, fatter then thinner, denoting a seasons growth... my guess is its 3-4 years old.

Well some on mine grew 6in+ this year but I thought they took a really long time to go from seed to a foot in height...Which I have never done...I've always gotten cuttings...
How fast can a seedling grow? Not a foot a year like the big ones right?

it does take a little bit longer to get to around a foot from seed 2 years aprox, but then it can easly grow 1 foot plus per season.
you still didnt answer my question, how do you come up with 15 years??
also lets see some pics of your 3 years worth of pedro. i have never seen a pic of any of your cacti, well just the serra blue which is not ven a real name(just used for marketing)
but i call bull!!

that is why he put the banana's next to them teo......
that is why people put lighters with alot of pics, not because they are raging crack heads but becuse it is a size guide, if that was 15 foot long then those are some of the biggest banana'a i have ever seen.
as soon as i see some pics i might belive you but for now i am just going to assume you are full of bull because you dont know the most simplest stuff to do with cactus....
sorry for going off topic in your thread good luck with the extraction, i am going to follow you in this thread when i do mine because i have never done an extraction yet

Ok, So i poured about 1000mls of xylene into the extraction jar, shook and let draw back out. Then put hcl water into two jars for basifying.. i was lacking a bigger jar.
I drew off the xylene with a turkey baster, shook, ect. and put into the freezer..
Then, after freezing, poured the xylene back into the extraction jar,. thawed out the frozen water and put into a baking dish to evaporate.. repeated several times

anyways, after evaporation this is what i got. Its a whitish, Brownish and greenish powder. Not exactly the cleanest or most pure, but I'm happy that i at least got something. Definitely better then cactus tea. And since it's Friday, i may just get to try it out this weekend. I guess I'll get better as I go along. It's roughly about 2-3 grams., now its time to figure out a dosage.

If so...I'd say like 3-4 doses...how many feet of cacti did you have?

i am curious if you kept the "waste" cactus? it would be interesting to compare the trips form the extract to the left overs t see if it is worth while.
and does xylene evaporate 100%, as in NO residue/leftovers/traces etc...?
