What do you guys think? ...casing

I just did my 1st casing, and am now waiting for it to start recolonizing again before i start pinning it, but wanted to see what you guys thought about my casing idea...
I didnt get this from any tek, but kinda stole ideas from here and there, and I think chucklehead did something similar... anyway.... I did a base layer of vermiculite, and added water until it was saturated, but not dripping (no standing water on the bottom), then crumbled my cake overtop, and then added MGMC on top of that. I dont have a pressure cooker, so i just put the soil into the oven on a cookie sheet at 340 degrees for about an hour. Once everything was all together, i misted the top, and then put it away to await signs of life. Think itll work? What would you suggest for next time... anything i could improve upon (cept for getting a pressure cooker)?

Should work fine. Switching to 50/50 on top works too, and you can use the microwave to sterilize. 5 mins on, 5 off, 5 on, 5 off, 5 on, then wait until cool, and case.

I dont usually sterelize my casing, ever. But it doesn't hurt to be cautious.

First, when are we going to get our "females of shroomery.org" expose pictorials? Inquiring perverts want to know...
Secondly, the vermiculite on the bottom isn't required. It encourages colonization in the wrong direction...not a huge deal, just unnecessary. Also, when you crumbled your cakes and cased them with MGMC, that's fine. But if you would have given them a little more food (coco coir, poo, compost, etc.) they would have created a larger mycelium colony which will create more fruits.
Again, nothing was done wrong, just little tweaks for next time.
All will be forgive once we receive our pictorials.

a lot of people are now leaving the bottom layer out (no verm or other casing combination) as it takes up much needed space and the mycelium will be using substrate nutrients to colonize both the bottom layer and the top casing layer also, make sure your top casing layer is at "near saturation" as hyphae says. misting after baking may not be enough, as many people have an already moist casing (squeeze tested, only a few drops come out kinda thing). The top layer should be moist enough to carry you through the first flush so that you don't have to risk misting and causing aborts. I'm sure you've taken care of this though, you sound like you know what you're doing!
Good luck, let us know how it goes!
