Consumption and Contamination
    #7340309 -

I fruited some jars and cased them with Jiffy 50-50 Mix. One of my trays developed what seemed to be bad overlay on one half and had normal healthy development on the other half. Im not sure however if it was overlay but it was hard and white. Anyway the healthy half of the tray developed mushrooms while the crappy half developed a greenish color on the surface a coupled days before the mushrooms matured. I cut off the bad half of the tray in order to allow the mushrooms to mature. The are normal in appearance.

Is it ill advised to consume these mushrooms?

Yup, that sounds good. The problem with consumption comes when the mould is actually growing on the mushrooms, rather than cohabiting on the substrate/casing.

For what it's worth, as far as I know, really bad overlay is yellow, not white.

The 'overlay' was trichoderma mycelium. The fruits are safe.
