Cannabis
    #733639 - 07/09/02 10:17 AM (21 years, 9 months ago)

Just heard on the news today that Cannabis will be a class C drug from tomorrow in the UK. But they will double the sentance for dealing. So I guess they cant bust anyone for smoking a joint.

I think they may be changing the dealing charge, so they can still charge people with the new social supply thing just as much as thye would with the old dealing charge.

The social supply was meant to be a lower charge than before, but if dealing is going up, is this such a great move?

I need sleep (did you notice lol) so I'm gonna go before I speak more crap.

Yeah you right (not about speaking crap) But they want the dealing charges to go from 5 years for supplying to 10. Not sure yet about cultivation for personal use though.

Class C drugs are :

Benzodiazepine tranquillisers, (e.g. Temazepam), dextropropoxyphene (Distalgesic, Doloxene) plus other mild amphetamine type stimulants

Maximum Penalties:
Possession (Magistrates Court) 3 months/200 pounds sterling fine or both
Possession (Crown Court) 2 years/unlimited fine or both
Supply (Magistrates Court) 3 months/500 pounds sterling fine or both
Supply (Crown Court) 5 years/unlimited fine or both

WHAT DECLASSIFICATION MEANS FOR CANNABIS USERS
Cannabis smokers will be liable for a warning and a caution, but not arrest. This will mean about 100,000 less arrests a year.
It is a step towards the recognising of cannabis as a legal medicinal aid.
The change in policy is more in keeping with Dutch cannabis laws and may pave the way for coffee shops in Britain.
It may be small-scale home cultivation is not going to be an arrestable offence.
It will still mean that supply is a criminal offence.

About Cannabis in Europe [Re: EvilGir]
    #740596 - 07/12/02 01:03 AM (21 years, 9 months ago)

I think that this link is one of the best to get news about legal status of cannabis all over the world.
Europe? I think the Neths, Swiss, Spain, Luxemburg, Belgium and UK are some countries to keep an eye onto ;o)
I love UK but I would like to have some Coffeshops the A'dam style around... and there are 3 (maybe 4 as I write).

Cheers

To be honest, I consider this a step backwards myself.

Its funny, Mr Blunkett employs a committe to study what drug laws should be reformed, but doesn't listen to anything they say.

The thing I was most excited about when I first read the commitee's report was the social supply idea, but instead, Mr Blunkett just doubles the max charge for dealing. (that is the max charge it would be in class b doubled, it should be even less in class c)

Alot of naive people (not any of you, but the people I have to work with), consider it being class C a brilliant move, some even say its legal. I am even less likely to grow cannabis than before, for fear of being prosectued with dealing. It seems that labour are just pleasing the majority of the voters as easily as possible.

I'd rant some more, but I think you get the jist of it. I just can't stand the people that I work with that think this is the greatest move made by any goverment ever, because of it they may even vote labour again. They don't relise they could get more if they placed their vote elsewhere.

Hang on, I'm rambling again....

why would you want to move to Europe when you could move to B.C canada marijuana isnt legal here but everyone smokes or grows it without much legal interferance. On second thought dont come here I want b.c to stay natural and not be overpopulated...sorry
