Why do you think the Nazi empire would have collapsed even without our devastating assaults on its greatest strongholds? The only other power who gave them any significant trouble was the Russians and all they did was defend their own turf. The rest of Europe was caught with their pants down and probably would have ultimately fallen if not for us. Would you call unification under a totalitarian regime seeking extermination of all non-Aryans "peace"?

Of course, history can be interpreted in any way you'd like, and we can ask what-if questions until we're blue in the face. But you, my friend, are a perfect example of how under-appreciated America's role in the world can be by her own people.

A lot of countries sacrificed a lot of lives in that war. I reckon it was a team effort rather than one country saving everyone else.

How can you forget Britain? They sacrificed everything they had to hold back the Germans, and they can proudly say that they haven't been invaded by a foreign force since the year the US was founded. I'd say that's pretty good for a small island. The Russians, on the other hand, were invaded, and just relied on the cold winter to stop the Wehrmacht.

What really fucks me off is when you guys claim that you won the war. You didn't even join the war until 1942 and even engaged in trade with the Nazis at several points before you joined in.

The British Commonwealth and France entered the war to protect Poland after the German invasion, as a result of protection treaties. America stayed 'neutral' until Japan attacked Pearl Harbour. 

Seriously, its not even funny. Yeah we needed your help, but no way do you deserve the credit that you take.

Well no shit, we just gained a fresh stock of millions of trained soldiers, as opposed to our soldiers, a lot of which were inexperienced, who had been deadlocked in the trenches with the axis for the last 3 years.

It doesn't surprise me at all that the fact that a superpower with a massive freshly trained army which had not been involved in any combat and then joins our side in the middle of the war, tips the war in our favour.

The allies' soldiers (British & French, mainly) before the Americans joined in.

The war started in 1939, you didn't join in till 1942.

And France was overrun and very very few British soliders were in foot combat at the time of 1942, Britan was simply waiting for a nazi invasion.

The US and Soviets were instrumental in Europe - but don't forget the US nearly single-handedly defeated the Japanese as well.

Lots of events changed the world at that time, both pearl harbor and Poland.

Also even before the war in Europe there was the war in Asia which started in the early 30s.

Yeah, I guess it's not even true to say the 'world changed' when Hitler decided to invade Poland, because we could just as easily say that the world changed when Hitler was elected. Or born. Or when Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, sparking the chain of events that led to WW1 which led to WW2.

Anyway, Pearl Harbor sucked, and Cuba Gooding Jr should have had a bigger part... he's much better than Ben Affleck
