i dont/neverhave use perlite, but a humidty gauge inside your terrarium would let you know when the humidity is dropping, hence time to change out perlite...
at least thats how i think it works... just meh 2 cents

When it gets too dirty. I always seem to drop verm in it and sometimes it gets spores dropped all over it. I can usually use perlite for well over a month to a month and a half.

I like to change it every time I put new casings in. I sterilize my whole terrarium to reduce the risk of contams.

When u sterilize do u change everything that is inside the terrrarium Dankman...or do u jus spray with lysol for a quick sterilize?
How do u get perlite on ur casing ..thats almost impossible. The container jus sits atop of it, unless the perlite can jump i dont see how that can happen LOL
