You also need to get it off the floor. 90% of all contaminants in a room are within 12" of the floor. It's even worse with carpet. Put it up on a shelf at least waist high.

i just got done dunking my 4 cakes, 2 were in for like 36 hours and 2 were in for maybe 24 hours. i went and got some fine verms and some more perlite for my bigger terrarium but i dont have a collender that had small enough holes for me to put the perlite in. so i just drained it out of a bowl. so the perlite dust is still in there is that ok? will this effect humidity? i was having problems with humidity with my other terrarium, i think..... my old ass humidity gage says other wise and i am fucking broke so i cant even afford to get a new one.

i have a good 5 inches of perlite now. the dust is still in there cuz i dont have a strainer but i got all the standing water out. i drilled minimal holes in the sides cuz i have been having problems geting humidity high enough but i think its good now. i also poked tiny holes in the bottom with a heated up fork for draining. i have the cakes in fine vermiculite and at least one has already started to pin. here are some pics of my new terrarium. any suggestions?? and will dust in perlite effect humidity??

excellent point RR i failed to realize he had his on the floor. k4m That looks soooo much better dude excellent work. Your walls dont need to be quite that wet unless you plan on leaving it unsupervised for several hours and you live in a fairly dry climate. I like to mist to where i see condensation style water on the sides maybe a little drizzle down but not soak it for sure u know? also light mists directly over the center of the chamber (1-3 sprays) about 1 foot above the top will keep your cakes and the very top layer of your perlite from drying out.
But good job on rectifying your problem man and good luck....it looks 100 percent better.

remember what RR said dude not only do you want your chamber up off the floor you want to have the actual bottom of it raised up off the surface its sitting on, i used cd cases hehe theres tons of different thinks you can use...coasters jar lids etc. but if you havent already drilled holes in the bottom, DO SO! hang your chamber off the edge of something (be extremely careful) and drill under it. You need this so air flows up through the perlite causing evaporation and allowing the humid air to rise up through the chamber. So in the end you want holes on bottom and you want those holes to be exposed to air (about 1/2 inch to 2 inches off the surface if you can.)

ok thanks a lot i like to hear a little good feed back for once haha. i cant get it off the ground cuz its the only spot i can hide it from my room mate but i can raise it up and i will. i know i am a newb so i hope this works out, i just got done creating my first case i crumbled up 2 fully colonized pint jars and put them on top of a little verms then put 50/50 verms and peat moss on it for a casing. take a look.... what do you think??

I think, i cant be sure cuz dimensions are uncertain buut i think with only 2 pints crumbled in to that its going to take a little while to colonize. Unless its smaller than im thinking. Id use like 3 pints, good job though  my first casing test is just starting to pop up i used half of a pint jar but its also a small little pie dish casing.

PH shouldnt be a big factor unless you add some other obscure shit to your casing. Peat and verm youll be fine. Your ph will be mostly affected by the water you use to hydrate your casing :goodluck:

hmm theres tons of different acidic and alkaline substances out there. Just search for it on google or something. Most of them should be safe to use with mycelium as its not very bothered thing. To me casings are more difficult than birthing cakes because it leaves more room for error. Many argue it is just as easy if not easier....i find that hard to believe. so yeah bring it up by adding something alkaline, oil based substances are very alkaline, salt etc.

Now that you pointed that out, I have moved my tubs off the floor. Luckily my grow wont start for another week or so. Thx RR
