Disturbingly psychedelic.
If you missed it, you missed something....what that is i'm not sure lol, but it was quite metaphorically philosophical.
They were on a journey back torwards earth and had run out of food and were still 2 days away. They decided to stop by this nearby planet to see what was there. They stumble across a food source that leaves you craving more unsatisfiably. They take this back to earth and start making mega bucks off of it. Though, no one is quite sure what it is.
Turns out the food source has an "intelligence" about it and starts speaking to the one-eyed girl. Aliens come to earth and threaten to kill off humanity for eating their "babies" which were this food source.
Anyone familiar with mushrooms to an extent, know that alot of cultures had a nickname for them. They are called "holy children of god" in some cultures. Not to mention they are babies of mycelium, which some people believe to be an alien species in and of itself ( i'll keep my opinion to myself on this one ).
Now at the very begin of the story, as they are on the planet, I was barely awake but i heard one of the characters blurt out "edible mushrooms" just before they stumbled across the food source. It got me awake, but i was wondering if anyone else watched the movie and could remember the line.
It ends with the big daddy of the aliens eating a hippy who was trying to save nature etc etc and he ends up tripping.

I didn't exactly think that was "pyschedelic"...

"I'm experienced at foraging, I used to find edible mushrooms on my bath mat"

"dude my hands are huge. they can touch anything but themselves"
"woa i feel like im flying"

Yeah there hasn't been new Futurama episodes for a while, the series is over.
That was a decent episode though.

You know you're a hippie when you start looking for psychedelic overtones in a tv show owned by Fox.

I'd say Futurama is chocked full of psychedelic overtones actually.

something like that, when they find their "evil" twins in a parallel universe.

futurama is pretty fucking awesome. i've burned all 5 seasons to DVD and watch them too often. it's fun.
you guys are forgetting the episode where bender becomes a electro-junkie. the first time he plugs in it shows this whole sixties-ish trip sequence. pretty awesome.
oh, and the God episode has always been one of my favorites. when the episode ended the first time i saw it, i was literally shocked at how philosophically deep it had been, while still being quite entertaining.

Another good quote from that episode: "If you do things right, people won't be sure that you've done anything at all..."
Anyway, they are making new Futurama. I've heard that the series has been slated to return in 2008 with a new run of like a dozen episodes, or however much a season is these days.
Also, this is a great tie-in, because the comic is about this thread, and the comic itself kicks ass as a whole. I seriously suggest anyone interested in this sort of thing checks it out.
Sweet Webcomic

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0471711/ - they are launching a straight to dvd episode, which will later be played on comedy central i believe.. then after that they will start with the new episodes

There were quite a few psychedelic/drug related moments in Futurama. The "The Farnsworth Parabox" the go to univers #420 where every one is a hippie.
The episode where Bender loses his legs and Fry finds a old VW Van... the Professor asks Fry "where's the device that lets you slow down the passage of time" and he pulls out a bong. Same episode later everyone comes to see bender and they said that the colors in the van were keeping them awake
The Popplers episode we've been talking about.
Bender's religious experience ... jacking on (also already mentioned)
Countless others that I can't remember right now because I haven't watched the show all summer!

it had drug jokes, yes... but they're the kind of fleeting tongue-in-cheek gags that the censors aren't even worried about.

Maybe the whole show is strongly based on psychedelics considering the main characters name is fry.
