i just pulled my lc out of the water and theres yellow fuzz floating in it

did i carmelize the honey?

I believe so, yes. My roommate has had two come out like that so far. Pressure cook for 15-20 mins only.

I pressure cooked for 25 mins following monstermitches journal but he used malt extract and dextrose powder. Guess I will have to retry it tommorow for only 15-20 mins. I also think it carmelized becuase I used cold water when mixing the honey water and the honey didnt disolve in teh water well.

I am extremely new to this as well so I'm not 100 percent sure on if all of the info I am giving you is accurate but I recommend warm water and stir the honey in well with a fork before pressure cooking. That way you are sure it's mixed in.

If anyone else would like to correct me please do before I cause this person any trouble :P.

you will almost always have floaties in honey lcs. they don't usualy come out clear. with the malt lc you need to pc then filter it through a coffe filter then re pc if you want it clear. or just use turbinado sugar. it's really nice stuff. search for agars turbinado tek.

I have heard from, (creamcorn?, agar?) that it might not actually be 'carmalizing' your sugars at those temps/time. I am still unsure of this but I did have a bit of luck with a batch of LC's that cleared this all up for me.

I did a batch of 7 Lc's > 600ml H2O/4tsp Karo > Pc 15 @ 15 = piss colored liquid.

but they worked


Then I did 7 more Lc's, but this time I happened to have some bottled water around, instead of my usual filtered tap water.

I also Pc'd them for 20mins or longer!!

They came out clear as pure water.

So I believe that it's not the sugar/honey/malt watever, it's trace minerals inside TAP water that react in the heat and with the LC to 'piss-ize' your jar.

This is just my observation, I bet a lot of people still get yellowing after using bottled water, but it helped me so...

I used distilled water

I guess I didnt carmelize it becuase it didnt loomk anything like that picture. To bad I dumped it. There were just some floaties in the bottom as described above and the water was a very light yellow.

I forgot to put the stir bar in anyways so I would have had to redo it no matter what.

I seem to have lost all my tyvek so I will be giving it another try friday.
