I think u should just use the mix they gave you, sounds like brown rice flour amd verm, which works great. Later you can try the mix from ryche, that sounds pretty good too. I would just use the tub thye gave you, either will work, but the tub has a better chance of not having contams in it. For your jars, yea, u want to put some foil over the jars when they are pressure cooking. And use the ramsey seal with the jars, it in the miscllaneous section in grow/find, i think. It really helped me to reduce contamination. I don't tap[e the holes, doesn't seem nessecary with the ramsey seal. Good luck, and tell me how that kit works! :wink:

If you're gonna get a kit, might as well follow all the information and use all the stuff that they gave you because that is the way to success. After the first time, that is when to start experimenting and tinkering with new twists.

Thought I would chime in on hole tape.

I use the tape prior to sterilization (with jars covered with tin foil)

Sterilize needle between each jar (alcohol in upside down shot glass works great when lit)

Replace tape after innoculation

When jars have about 1" diameter worth of growth, remove tape and flip jars so lids are down....

Works for me :wink:
