How Old are we
    #731503 - 07/08/02 12:14 PM (22 years, 8 months ago)

I get the distinct impression that this community is far younger that I am. I guess it?s the references to parents and school that I see so often. Well I?m 44 and going strong and I was just wondering how old people are, and am I among the elders on this site? I did my first hit of acid in 1972 / 73 time frame and it seems to me that some of the members here may not have born yet!

For this is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago

It's not too bad doing drugs at our age, old man. At least most of us are responsible about it...

Sun so hot, the clouds so low, the eagles filled the sky.

33 and just recently getting back to some pot smoking and shrooms. Dabbled a bit in high school and college but nothing for the past ten years.

I must say I appreciate it more than I did then, really enjoy every puff after a long week at work. And certainly enjoy shrooms more after growing them myself! I wish I knew about growing when I was younger.

Thanks I really don't feel old I have two daughters age 14 and 12 that tell me I'm the craziest person in the world, and keeping them guessing really keeps me young at mind.

I sat down to my supper, 'twas a bottle of red whisky,
I said my prayers and went to bed, that's the last they saw of me.

I'm 18, going on 19 in a couple weeks.
I first smoked pot and did acid in my senior year of high school.
I first grew and did shrooms during the summer after my freshman year at college (as in THIS summer)

I couldn't imagine doing any of this stuff at a younger age than I did...
That's just me tho

A synchronicity for you:
In July 1973, during a road trip from NJ to several National Parks, I left my pardner at Yellowstone to take a summer job and was returning home. While crossing the railroad tracks in Cheyenne, WY, I looked up to see Great Northern boxcars parked around me. At the VERY MOMENT that my '72 Fiat 850 Spider rumbled over the tracks, this VERY LINE came over the speakers from my 8-track deck - "The Great Northern out of Cheyenne from sea to shining sea." Unforgettable synchronicity that I thought I'd share with ya.

Yesterday, July 9th, was my birthday. I am 49. On July 1st, in the Philosophy and Spirituality forum, I celebrated my 30th anniversary of my 1st LSD trip on windowpane. Changed my life. Not complaining about chronology - I got carded a few months ago at the Voodoo Lounge in Ft. Lauderdale. My lady gets carded for buying wine all the time and she's gonna be 46 next month. Mind Creates 'field effects'. We may be chronologically older, but we are psychologically decades younger, and our cellular ages seem to be much younger too.

Used properly, (i.e., experiencing and incorporating timelessness into one's self-concept) psychedelics can be considered the Philosophers' Stone which imparts longevity, which in turn can occasion the acquistion of Wisdom. Live long and ponder.

Just turned 18 on July 4th =)

First smoked pot when I was 13, got drunk for the first time at 16, tripped off LSD for the first time at 16, ate ecstasy for the first time at 16, tripped off mushrooms for the first time like a month ago.

Just tryin' to find my way... I got a feeling my way is going to be very very different from most others. I guess that's alright though, no need to conform and be the same as everybody else. Even though that would probably make my life a lot simpler...

Actually, it was a very light weight, light green color that was capped up in some red gelatin. A year later, the same Sandoz psilocybin came to us through a friend who worked part time in a psych lab at Boston University, and stole the bottle. Had he looked deeper into the fridge, he would've found a larger bottle of mescaline sulfate, which he witnessed being poured down the drain during a DEA audit. I grew up within visual range of Sandoz Pharmaceuticals in E. Hanover, NJ, and in fact, I used to make deliveries there as a young long-haired truck driver. The guards always smiled and said "have a nice trip" as I drove in. Everyone knew the legacy for young freaks back then.

This was where Leary and Alpert drove to obtain the first psilocybin for their Harvard experiments, and where most rock celebrities got there first pre-Owsley acid. I seriously believe that the CIA did a wide-spread experiment on a macro level to see how acid effected the nation. It diminished conspicuous consumerism - when a VW Beetle does as well in one's mind as a fully loaded Cadillac - the walls of capitalism quake. Too, too many psychedelics left there to have been an oversite. Even a college roommate of mine once obtained 200 blue Sandoz LSD tabs. Sorry for the ramble.

...And Greetings to you gnrm23, my mid-western croney. I have to 'break on through' this go-round, I'm weary of the carosel. If Bodhisattva's delay their paranirvana til everyone else attains to it, and there are many bodhisattvas, will there be a cosmic 'Mexican' standoff between the bodhisattvas? Or, seeing that all others have attained, will they go together? In any event, don't let anyone say that 'I' am keeping those kind beings from final beatitude! Shalom. Salaam. Shanti.

But I don't think it was the president that tripped. It was James Coburn that did the trippin.

I remember seeing that one at a drive-in with my parents. I think Water Hole #9 was playing with it.

like a ball in a mountain stream, thought after thought after thought with no block. and that's the mind of a child as the innocent mind, the mind of a person who is enlightened, says Zen master Joshu. but then, last year i went tricker treating an some ol' bag sneers at me and says "aren't you a little too old to be tricker treating" and i laughed and said "that depends, senora, chronologically or mentally?" yeheheheh. but appearance wise, 3 random people in the last month have shouted out that i looked like woody allen (byuck!). a few years back they used to tell me weird al or polly schore, indicating some sort of aging. hair is already receding n' falling downwards, some smart ass friends were howling and shouting out "teen wolf!" when I hopping in the pool over, grrrr. sure wish somebody would pay this tot's bills! heheh, love n' blessings, CJ

From a sociological point of view, this thread has turned into quite an interesting survey. It would seem however, that the young'uns here take your question about acid, and generalize it to every psychoactive thing they've ever put in their mouths. If you'll permit me...

HEY! TEENAGERS! Listen up! This is not a contest. Taking all kinds of drugs is not where it's at. Psychedelics are perhaps the most powerful 'change agents' known to man. They are classed as drugs, but they are also known as "sacred drugs" by Dr. Albert Hofmann, discoverer of LSD. Learn the difference. If you've managed to survive intact at age 13 or 14 after taking LSD, you've obviously received a low enough dose not to undo the cognitive development that is still under construction. 18 is not an arbitrary age, it is an average age of the completion of some very crucial developmental processes that you may very well f**k up forever with large dosages of psychedelics. Your cerebral cortex has 10 more years to develop. Listen, read and learn now so you can benefit later. I've been a psychotherapist and an addictions counselor for 20 years, and if you freak out and get yourself taken to a hospital because you've eaten a bunch of gel-tabs - I'll tell you - the physicians are gonna teach you a lesson under the guise of treatment. This is unethical bullshit, but I've had kids who could be calmed by a dimly lit room, good music, a best friend and maybe 5mg of Valium, but no. They were strapped to a gurney all night under bright lights, treated like they were psychotic and had blood drawn every 30 minutes while getting lectured to about brain damage. Be Advised from a friendly elder. As to coke, crack, crank, and cough medicine...knock it off before it knocks you off. Live Long!

Hey, you know if you take an orange peel and put a stick of gum on it and put in in your refrigerator for a month, and take it out and split the gum into 4 squares. each square is like taking a hit of acid.
And if you take a melon and drill a hole in it and put sugar in it and bury it in the yard for a month and take it out and split the melon into 4 slices. each slice is like taking a hit of acid.
Or something.

Markos

>"HEY! TEENAGERS! Listen up! This is not a contest. Taking all kinds of drugs is not where it's at."<

I'm not generally gettin that from their comments. I think you've got some kind of trip concerning the kids.

>"They are classed as drugs, but they are also known as 'sacred drugs' by Dr. Albert Hofmann, discoverer of LSD."

Man, you're a real blowhard. You sound like some old geezer lecturing a kid in an alley as you suck down on your forty. I'd say that most of these young people are quite aware of the spirituality involved with the use of psychedelics.

>"If you've managed to survive intact at age 13 or 14 after taking LSD, you've obviously received a low enough dose not to undo the cognitive development that is still under construction. 18 is not an arbitrary age, it is an average age of the completion of some very crucial developmental processes that you may very well f**k up forever with large dosages of psychedelics. Your cerebral cortex has 10 more years to develop. "<

I'm sure that the foundation for your position is the fact that you started a little later. Lol. Don't get me wrong though. I'm sure you've dug hard enough until you could find somebody somewhere to back your contention.

Don't get me wrong folks, I'm not endorsing the use of these substances by non adults.

>"Listen, read and learn now so you can benefit later."<

That is very good advice.

>"I've been a psychotherapist and an addictions counselor for 20 years..."<

Now, there's your problem.

>"the physicians are gonna teach you a lesson under the guise of treatment."<

You got that right, baby.

Didn't you hear the Who? The kids are alright. You need to get off your high horse and stop peering down at people through your monocle, my good doctor.

Yeah...and you're obviously the result of exactly the things I'm concerned about, like stunted social development, difficulties in critical thinking, and problems with authority. I'd say that name-calling, opinionated, reactive statements based on unsubstantiated assumptions, and obviously no understanding of substance abuse casualties among adolescents, places you in the strange condition of extended adolescence.

My "trip" with kids is to keep them mentally healthy, and as you can discern, but not quite comprehend, it is more than just my career. My "problem" is not with having education and experience, it's with individuals like you who mindlessly criticize sound advice, and then make a ridiculous disclaimer about 'not endorsing the use of substances by non-adults.' AS IF young teenagers aren't confused enough about drugs and why adults are advocating them at this forum. My address was to teenagers, and inasmuch as YOU responded, you must feel that it applies to you. Teenagers do NOT grasp the 'spiritual' implications of psychedelics because the transrational, transpersonal dimension follows the attainment of cognitive development which they have not achieved yet. THAT was the point of my caution to them - not to interfere with normal human development by the premature introduction of 'change agents.' They haven't accrued the problems yet that could be helped by psychedelic experience, but may very well undo a growing structure.

How old did you say you were? And why the hell would you attempt to sabotage an intelligent warning and confuse kids at the same time? What is YOUR motive, and what is your problem?

Markos

Maybe you could show me who you were talking to in this thread when you said "HEY! TEENAGERS! Listen up! This is not a contest"?

You're a blowhard, dude. The only thing you are concerned about is stroking your own ego.

>"Teenagers do NOT grasp the 'spiritual' implications of psychedelics because the transrational, transpersonal dimension follows the attainment of cognitive development which they have not achieved yet."<

Total bullshit although it probably does describe you in your teen years.

I'll bet dozens (if not more) poor bastards have been subjected to having to listen to your blabbering bullshit as per a court order too.

>"And why the hell would you attempt to sabotage an intelligent warning and confuse kids at the same time? What is YOUR motive, and what is your problem?"<

Your opinion of yourself is not warranted. Your warning wasn't intelligent and you underestimate young people. Your response was arrogant and probably the result of years of buttsucking by individuals just trying to get past the fool and off probation.

Yeah, um, markos, speaking as one of the "un-enlightend" teenagers, i think you need to chill, and your deffinetly not getting through to us... let us deal with our own stuff, people arent irresponsible jsut because theyre young. Some young people do mushrooms to just get "fucked up", and this is the kind of person you should be speaking to... it is however entierly possible to be a responsible young person, even if you werent. I manage my drug habbits, i quit a 12-15 session a day habbit of bud because im training for football (started over 2 months ago), and ive put off drinking untill after my thanksgiving game (bud i will not return to). Mushrooms are a great way to explore you mind from what ive experianced, and i would like to continue to do so without people like you getting on my back about me being a mindless teenager

Read the post again. The "mindlessly" reference was not to teenagers. Congratulations if you have mastered a compulsive cannabis habit, and a budding alcohol habit. My reference was perhaps not for you. On the other hand, compulsive use and addiction are in effect the same obstacle to freedom and health.

With regard to "getting through to us," you can only speak for yourself, and perhaps for those teens who agree with you here, which would probably be ALL of them. I do in fact have a good number of people who contact me privately through this forum when entertainment or amusement has turned into a clinical disorder. They are not teenagers. You will discover through your own exploration what the results are of your own specific habits. Those are your choices - it's your life. I'm not interested in controlling people. BTW, I was not a reckless kid, but a 'junior scientist,' who researched carefully and experimented cautiously whether in the home lab, or in my mind-body. Now, I am a person with 30 years of entheogenic experimentation, and 20 years of post-doctoral clinical experience, but you don't Have to listen to or learn anything from me. There is much I can and do learn from teenagers whom I work with daily, but if I say something, I know what I'm talking about. No bullshit here. See ya.

I didn't read all this post, but it looks like I have some peers here. I'm 48. Did sugar cube acid under the watchful (?) eyes of some hippies in 1967, and went to a 'anti-war' demonstration in downtown Cleveland, OH. I've logged quite alot of 'space travel' since then, and I'm pretty much on permanent vacation now, which is almost a good thing, since they don't make it like they used to!

First, to answer the question... I'm 27

Markos, you ever read "the medium is the massage"? what you are saying isn't so bad, the advice you have isn't bad, but the delivery is a bit harsh... generalizing because in a forum like this no one would read something broken down into specifics, preaching to the choir, and at the same time, being a wee bit antagonistic.

hopefully, the people that you are speaking of, may at some point pay more attention to the message than the delivery...

I'll take your criticism into consideration. It seems I've become more than a tad impatient with those who are stupid and reckless; who don't listen and then get hurt. Now, this is not even the majority of posters here, but understand that prevention is a whole lot more helpful than cure. There is a HUGE difference across the board, developmentally, between an average 14 year old and an 18 year old. The differences are more profound in that segment of the time line than say, between 18 and 22. I work with kids who give birth at age 12, and adolescent substance abusers who sometimes die, and after 16 years at this, one really does become impatient and frustrated, so I aplolgize to the young and prepared. However, we just do not skip over developmental processes, and even though we believe we are 'mature,' along certain lines, the fact remains that some very critical growing has to be completed before doing psychedelics. A Saturn V rocket absolutely requires a sturdy and stable launch scaffold for liftoff. Collapse of the launching pad would be catastrophic. Analagously, an intentional weakening of the ego - one's unified cognitive, affective, social, identity - before it's strong enough, with psychedelics, is likewise catastophic to psychological health. I've just seen too many kids get damaged - even when I was the same age as them in high school - we called them 'acid casualties.'

tim leary was in cleveland heights maybe 12-15 years ago... & somebody asked about kids & psychedelics...
& he said it's prolly not a good idea for teenagers to be dosing on acid, & it's also prolly not a good idea for them to be flying a fighter jet...so ya, there may be some stuff you gotta get accomplished first before you head off into the wild blue yonder,,, and it will generally take about as long to get the neccessary preliminaries outa the way as it does to "grow up"...
~
i've tried to tell my kids & their friends something like : it is not a contest to see who can consume the most drugs before you turn 21; if you pace yourselves (& learn to be ummmmm discrete), you can prolly get as deep into it as you want over the next several decades... (but if if try to do too much too soon, or crash & burn too obviously, you may not make it to 21...)
~
oh, and since they couldn't seem to manage a simple graduation party with goin' down in (legal) flames, ya gotta figure the qt acid party just isn't gonna happen on my watch... can still consult the literature & check out the websites, but i don't feel i can be involved in any capacity other than advisory (feeling the scrutiny of the man still focused on a dotted line painted on my neck...)

Markos,

When I started this post I had no idea that this kind of thought provoking discussion would develop. I for one totally understand what you are saying. Having said that, I’m 44 years old with two teenage kids and consider myself very lucky to have survived my own teenage years. Many of my close friends were not so lucky. But I still remember the 16-year-old rebel that knew better than everyone and listened to nobody! I respect the message that you’re trying to convey however you’re talking to a tough audience. If they are members of this community and have experienced the effects of mushrooms and other drugs, that makes them even tougher because of the knowledge that they have gained. As they say a little knowledge can be dangerous. All I will venture to do is wish them all the best of luck!

Keep on Shining

So...all you think you were doing is making a simple inquiry into the age range, huh? Well, it is a touchy topic that evolved - the proverbial generation gap. Yet, it is paradoxical. My parents' generation would become hysterical about the dread LSD, as they learned from magazines and the first Dragnet (1966) TV show since the 50's. Here, I'm saying, "wait til you're older." Mature adult human specimens are qualitatively different from immature specimens, and there are pros and cons to both. The unbridled energy of youth usually doesn't possess the patience to guide that energy, and the experience accrued from age isn't valued by youth, but the elder's loss of energy is viewed with disdain or contempt. Well, I don't have 14 hour marathon love-making sessions on acid anymore, but I became a better lover in my 40's than when I was in my 20's.

I'm glad I grew up during the years that I did, and I did listen to my 'elders' - The Beatles, Tim Leary, Ram Dass, the pre-Socratic philosophers, Plato and Jesus, to name the biggest names. And...I'm still listening. So, thanks for your support, as well as for initiating this sometimes emotional interaction. -MtG

From about 6 months after birth, when we discover that biting our blanket doesn't hurt, while biting our thumb does hurt, we begin to develop an ego. This 'body-ego' comes first, and then during the 'terrible twos,' we discover the word "NO!" This is the rudimentary 'mental-ego' emerging. At adolescence, the first mission in human development is 'Identity,' "Who am I?" This question doesn't mean the same thing to teens as it does to followers of the great Yogi Ramana Maharishi who asked this question in Hindi ("Vichara Atma?"), and wanted to Know Who we were Ultimately. Uh uh.

For adolescents the 'social ego' and 'mental ego' reach incredibly inflated proportions. Reputation. Smart-assed replies to dull-minded adults. Clothes. Piercings. Haircuts. Hot rims. Hotter hotties. Who can be the first to reveal the hypocrasy of grownups? Please don't believe that young people don't have egos. What they don't have or want, is the opposite - humility - unless a mind-blowing trip shows them how much Awareness and energy is available to them when their loud and demanding egos are squashed down to size.

You are an educated man, and I do agree that some of the teenagers got a little bit defensive on your advice.. although I do feel making mistakes and testing your boundaries is a vital part of growing up and becoming mentally sucessful in life. I can see how you are around the bad apples, rather than the 17 year olds like me(Yes, I AM egotistical . I can't speak for the misguided teens who have troubles with drug addiction and various other problems.. I believe they are weak of the mind, the reason? Part of it is probably there dim witted parents. My parents are more open and thoughtful of child raising.. instead of censorship and trying to ban me from experiencing life they try to get me to live my life being knowledgeable and informed.. In fact I have often gotten intoxicated on both alcohol and Mary with my parents, we don't see it as much of a problem because we are both comfortable with the drug and the situation.. in many ways it brings us closer together. Instead of having the authority figure/delinquient relationship we are friends, from there they can offer me advice and I'll listen. Kids are going to go through hardship and the best and only remedy is supplying them with a good base, and to form them into emotionally able beings when they are young so that they can tackle the issues when they arise and somewhat avoid other more difficult situations such as addiction. The other teenagers should perhaps avoid drug use, although they won't and doing so quite possibly won't make them any happier in the long run. Ever notice after people go through addiction and come out of it they appear reborn and have a new zest for life? Lifes valuable lessions are tough ones to learn.. but you gotta learn them somewhere.. somehow.. and reading it from a book or hearing it from one of the thousands of adults such as yourself ain't gonna cut it for most of us. If I were to take everybodies advice, when I'm looking back from your age all I will see is how I never experienced life and lived.. and that my friend is my greatest fear.

I'm no expert though.. just an observant teenager.

I used to work in outpatient and residential drug treatment centers. Unfortunately, less than 1% of the population stays clean. That born-again trip is usually little more than a temporary emotional high received in a group counseling situation day after day. A couple days or a week after leaving treatment, the emotions dissipate and the emptiness and meaninglessness is back.

A lot of drug use, and I mean a LOT of it, is a secondary diagnosis. Lots of kids are 'dual diagnosis' cases, meaning that the drug abuse is a self-medication for thought disorders or personality disorders. Talk from any therapist isn't gonna make an impact on a person with beginning schizophenia, schizotypal, or schizoaffective disorders. Neither is talk gonna affect borderline, narcissistic, obsessive compulsive, antisocial or other personality disorders. Those kids who have intact personality structures, and who are experiencing the existential illnesses like boredom, loneliness, meaninglessness, shame, guilt, or anxiety, can and do listen. Those kids with usual emotional obstacles or social ineptness, who learn to use drugs to take the place of dating or general socializing also listen.

As in medicine, only the most resistant and deadly diseases are beyond intervention. All disease is not incurable cancer, and all mental dis-ease is not psychosis. Unlike kids, I don't even try to get on the same page with the most difficult of people, or the 'lowest common denominator' because on the 'hierarchy of needs,' I'm past the urgent need to 'belong,' developmentally. It's a stage one can't skip. One can try to be aloof and think that's cool, but you can't fool Mother Nature. I have been told, "You saved my life," or "you changed my life forever," so I never know. I've also lost kids to overdose deaths because nobody was gonna tell them anything. OK, so they died. I'm not going to allow myself to become inflated by the successes or depressed by the failures. I Know that I'm acting from the right place. As the Good Book says, 'Let those with ears, hear.'

30 here

First post so far. I've mostly been reading the teks and stuff because I'm in the middle of my first attempt at growing shrooms. YEAH!!!

Anyway I FIst did LSD in 87-88, And for the next 4-5 years following we were tripping all the time. I certainly did not regard it in any spiritual sense at that time. I just love trying to play chess on a marble chess set while it melted, or the way we would kick ass at playing turbo quarters at the parties because everyone else actualy was getting drung from all the vodka we were drinking. And seeing the grass actuly grow, the concerts. One of my favorites was comunicating via inuendo with my fellow psyconauts and the others not having a clue as to what we were saying. My best friend and I got to where we could communicate with little or no words. I loved that.

Of course over time we came to respect the profondness of our experiences. Intense discussions with a friend or time alone for intrespection all lead to a sort of cosmic awareness. I am not a religious person but I don't think I would be the spiritual person I am today without those experiences, not that I'm all that spiritual aside from a many paths yin/yang sort of mindset.

basicly....

.... Pretend I said all kinds of stuff about mental age vs physical and maturity of a person (teen) being the more inportant factor. It all depends on the person.

Anyway shrooms have always been a part of the mix since my first trip and I tried and done all kinds of stuff. I was lucky enough to get some liquid LSD from a new friend a cople of weeks ago and after about 8 years it way a very pleasant experiance. (I strongly suggest Shpongle) and I hope to get my fist flush of B+ in a couple of weeks.

My only advice would be to practice moderation in all thigs (exept living).
To much of anything is bad wether it be books, drugs, religion, or work.

Nice to meet you all.

Well it's a small world but a big city. Where are you from?

Out of the river all ugly and green,
Came the biggest old alligator that I've ever seen!

I want very little...

Walk into splintered sunlight,
Inch your way through dead dreams to another land.
Maybe you're tired and broken,
Your tongue is twisted with words half spoken and thoughts unclear.

Cool,

May you grow up to be righteous, may you grow up to be true.
May you always know the truth and see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous, stand upright and be strong.
May you stay forever young.

does it really matter how old or young this body is?
i meen, you can read my posts and determine from that what kind of person i am.
why would you want to prejudice your opinion of me by knowing how old i am?
i find that most people, whether they meen to or not, form a pre-conceived notion about another persons character, maturity level, wisdom, etc. based solely on age.
i have known some young people that posessed very old souls, that had a depth of character and enlightenment beyond their years.
on the other hand, i have known grandfathers that never matured past their adolescence.

so, pretend i'm a book. judge me by my content, not my cover.

32 this year.

Seeing "shit" instead of knowledge that doctors post on the Shroomery is most likely due to the fact that your head is up your ass. I know all those 'V' words are hard, but you really ought to know what pharmaceuticals you're taking.

I'm gonna be 25 on my next bday, but I have an 8, 5, and 1 yr old so i think that adds like 20 years to my actual age. But hey I'm still called a M.I.L.F. so it's all good... I ate acid for the first time 1o years ago and many times in between last time was last year (and I'd eat it again if I could find any)

Dick, I believe Vicodin is a narcotic pain reliever and Valium is a minor tranquilizer used to treat anxiety, but I'm no doctor. From an alcoholic's point of view, whiskey does both.
I turned 25 last month. I first tried acid the day before father's day in 1996. I first ate mushrooms the same year, I believe around thanksgiving, when I visited my friend at Penn State.
(I don't mean to get off on a rant...
The other substances I've tried that induce an altered state of conciousness are nutmeg, jimson weed, couph syrup, morning glory seeds, mdma, and nitrous oxide. Nutmeg is definitely not worth trying. I felt feverish and delerious for about 12 hours after eating around 2 table spoons. The bad effects far outweigh any good ones. I read that it may cause liver damage too. Jimson weed also has many negative effects. It can cause seizures and drain bamage. The difference between jimson weed and other drugs that make you "trip" is that on jimson weed the visual and auditory hallucinations seem real. The best way I can describe it is it's like you're dreaming while you are awake. It is truly a glimse into the mind of a madman. Cough syrup, or more accurately dextromethorphan, is also very hard on the body with numerous unpleasant side effects such as loss of balance and coordination, inability to focus with your eyes, and possibly Olney's lesions (brain damage). The mind is separated from the body and split into its distinct parts as the neurons no longer properly communicate with each other. The only negative effects I noticed on morning glory seeds were nausea and lethargy. However, the positive effects were also rather slight, kind of like a low dose (1 gram) mushroom journey. MDMA is a very enjoyable drug, perhaps too much so. I felt at peace with myself, those around me, and nature similar to experiences I've had on acid and mushrooms but without the hallucinations. There weren't many negative effects other than the stimulant jaw grinding, fever, insomnia, and lack of appetite. Studies have shown that Ecstasy may cause brain damage too. And finally, nitrous oxide has catapulted me numerous times into abysses from which I thought I'd never return. It seems best to combine it with weed and/or other psychedelics and good music. Unfortunately, nitrous oxide can also harm your brain by depriving it of oxygen and depleting vitamin b-12.
Carefully consider what chemicals you put into your body especially if you did not make it or grow it yourself. Weigh the positive and negative aspects of any drug use and decide if the good outweighs the bad. Just like each mushroom has a unique shape and chemistry so too does everyone's brain. What gets me off might put you in a padded room or worse.
...but that's just my opinion.)

Say, can I have some of your purple berries?
Yes, I've been eating them, for six or seven weeks now, haven't got sick once.

Good post, Funwithgus.
I concur with everything you said (except that I've never taken DXM in non-recommended doses, or taken Datura -Jimson Weed). I would add (and this is after many Whippets and even a tank of Nitrous), that Nitrous Oxide seriously inhibits processes in the long bone's marrow that produces red blood cells. This is definately not something to mess with. Also, I have a PharmAlert magazine from when I was a substance abuse counselor in Maryland in the early 80's. Lots of Jimson Weed deaths turn up the seeds in the stomach of the deceased. They are always teenagers looking for a free trip, and they get a free trip to the morgue. Datura is never ingested in cultures that use it - it is always applied topically to the skin, or the vaginal mucosa in European medieval witchcraft. Live Long and Ponder.

I just want to say on the subject of the young.

Finish high school. Try to get some work experience. Think about what is really going to happen to you in a few years. Take a moment and think it all through.

To all; Everyone dies. Be kind and considerate to all. Everything is given and taken in equal amount. You'll get it all back whether what you gave was good or bad.

I'm 15 and just b/c of the younger age, I'm not less intelligent. Wisdom comes with age, but intelligence comes with knowledge and I feel as long as long as one arms themselves with as much knowledge as is offered to them in this gigantic world, they have the right to make their own decision as to wether they want to further their experiences, and add a couple years of wisdom to their conscious being, by enhancing their perception with through the use of Psychedelic enhancements. I call them enhancements b/c the term drug is usually put into a negative light, thought of as controlling and possessive. Let us younger ones see what you see.
