Hello all,
It's the rainy season and suddenly I'm finding these beauties all over the place! They look awful familiar....... Just looking for a few educated opinions. Looking but not finding info pertaining to the island of St. Lucia, W.I. Can anybody help? would like ID and info on any dangerous look alikes that might ruin the fun...
habitat: pastures around island of St Lucia, growing directly on aged cow/horse manure gills: color depends on age, see pics stem: color and size vary, mostly white to creamy, have purplish ring, hollow when large caps: size varies, up to 4.5in dia, see pics for color description, often distinct nipple spore print: dark purplish brown, see pic bruising: most bruise a greenish/blue, though not always very dark scent:earthy

Psilocybe cubensis
though there are some old wrinkly looking ones I would throw out, I don't see anything that looks wrong in the last pic. You don't want food poisoning to ruin your trip...
As long as they all bruise blue/bluegreen, and have a purple spore print, I'd say you're good to go.
great first ID request by the way. Thanks for taking the time to do it right.

no, not a cheese head! Farther south, in the beautiful Caribbean. Getting ready to get my ass kicked by mother nature, in the form of hurricane Dean! But the torrential rain means more fun!!!!!!!!

hey there,
the photos were taken with a Fujifilm S5100 4.0 megapixel digi. It has been the best digital camera I have ever used. Pic quality far exceeds many cameras with greater megapixels, and it is tough as nails. Been wet many times, dropped, etc and still keeps taking awesome shots. I would be glad to shoot some habitat photos for you. Let me know what you want and I'll do it.
PS-survived Dean fairly unscathed, though there is a lot of damage around, especially in the north of the island

It is a beautiful place. Great people, awesome scenery, and the fungus is phenomenal! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an exotic hunting trip! The other fun substances are readily available, and cheap too! Our neighbor to the south is one of the largest producers of cannabis on the planet, so that is in abundance is well. All and all a wonderful place to just chill! Oh yah, and not only do we also have a volcano (Soufriere, just like Dominica) you can walk/drive into this one and bath in the warm sulfur water bubbling right out of it. It is within walking distance of where I live. St. John was nice, but it is hard to beat the scenery and local inhabitants here!!!!! (both the flora and fauna) anybody feel free to contact me for more info, and if anyone has ANY mycology info let me know. I am planning on taking more pics of the numerous species found around for further ID
