Quote:
Depends upon how you calculate iflation. The numbers are manipulated to hide the real inflation rate which is probably closer to 10 percent.

for example..if productivity increases by 10% and the CPI increases 2% (these arent the actual numbers).. then it means that the median worker "feels" an inflation rate of 12%..because (s)he is working 10% harder to offset the 12% inflation rate to 2%...
Or ofcourse people aren't actually keeping tabs on insidious price changes. Here's some guys who did:
These are basic foods people. You need good wholesome food to live.
Note that all starchy foods (the dietary staple) have gone up an average 7%

There are no signs that a dollar crash is imminent and supporters of the current global monetary system will try to support it as long as they can. Take a look at the following chart:
Note how every time the dollar goes down to 80 it pops right back up. It actually dropped just below 80 once only to zoom almost straight up off its lows. That is known in the investment community as strong "technical resistance". There are people who make a living doing this stuff but basically it means that it would take a major event to push the dollar below that level. It is a psychological barrier more than anything.
I think that day is coming but its anyone's guess as to when it will occur.
Note: Let me know if the image is not displaying. It is in a weird format ( png ) and I may have to convert it.

fruits and vegetables prolly arent a good example..since the price hikes might actually be the result of a drought and/or a shortage of honeybees...and this carries over to animal products too..because cows must be fed corn before they can produce milk...
a better example of an insidious price increase would be the loss of taxpayer benefits.. such as trial-by-jury and education funding.. which have avalanche effects far beyond the immediate per-capita loss of expenditures...for example..under-educating workers pushes them into lower-paying jobs.. and the resulting loss of purchasing power as wages has the same effect as a price increase...

One other thing I wanted to point out.
"Employment contracts, pension benefits, and government entitlements (such as Social Security) can be tied to a cost-of-living index, typically to the consumer price index .."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_of_living
So there is a tremendous incentive for the federal government to understate the true inflation rate. Fudging the inflation numbers allows the federal government to save billions and lower the budget deficit.
