It finally happened to me.

Smoking pot is no longer fun.
Unless I'm alone, and I'm cleaning, painting, writing, or noodling in some other no-pressure atmosphere.
But with other people? Fuck it. I can't think, I don't want to upset anyone, I'm unintelligent and softspoken, and I end up watching TV with my roommates, who act the same. Lame.
Goodbye, weed.

You're just doing it too much, imo. Take a break for 2 weeks to a month and then try once a week and see how you feel.

mmm, opium. maybe once in a blue moon.
I'm just surprised at how much agression I have inside of me without pot. I actually have that "change the world" feeling inside of me again. It's like angst, only now I feel kinda useful. And I want to read.

smoking weed shouldnt be a passtime by itself. weed is an enhancer, like BBQ sauce. a plate full of only BBQ sauce would be pretty lame.

Ehhhn, wrong. I have been smoking too much for a few years, and like I said, I still enjoy it when there's casual productivity going on, but it's the apathetic attitude of my friends and peers (and myself) that's really turning me off from all of this. If I can meet some once-a-month smokers, that's cool. But most of the users I meet are daily smokers, and I'd rather not be around it anymore.

But it doesn't enhance anything for me anymore. I actually feel worse when I smoke - it's as if the BBQ sauce that was once my weed has now expired.

yeah, you just need to quit for a few weeks or longer. This has happened to me a couple times.
You just get a tolerance, and it doesnt do much for you. I am pretty much to that point right now. Super Silver Haze has totally fucked me over tolerance wise. I need to stop smoking, and it isnt easy.
Otherwise I guess it is time for a change in scenery. Make some new friends.

yeah but once you get to the point where you have such a high tolerance, you still smoke every day just because you "need" it... whoever said weed wasnt addicting is full of shit.

I also definately find that my highs are better if I am doing scarcely rather than habitually. Not sure if you're familiar with the late Terrence McKenna or not but I had also heard him say that people are smoking too much and that the ideal way (in his view anyway) is to do it once a week with the best weed you can find.

Maybe if the sauce made you worry about your facial expressions, stopped you from saying what you mean, made it harder to form coherent sentences, or took away your drive to work and replaced it with a desire to just eat more sauce, then you'd feel the same way I do. I'm not saying weed is awful for everyone - just that's it's not for me anymore.

No no, you don't get it. I don't WANT to smoke weed anymore, and I definitely don't want to get higher every time I do it. If I wanted to get really baked, I'd stop for a few days. But I don't. I want to feel clarity.

Yeah, pretty much. My main problem when I quit is sleep. The first week is hell. Even afterwords I have a HELL of a time getting to sleep. I have even tried otc sleeping aids, and yeah, they made me tired as fuck, but I still couldn't go to sleep.

You said you now feel compelled to read. Is it that when you're in a marijuana lifestyle that you don't even bother to pick up a book or that when you try to you lack the ability to comprehend and take it in? I also find that if I am on a break from pot that I read and play guitar more (also seems like theres more time in the day) so all in all.. good luck with giving it up!

I quit like 3 months ago because I was doing it too much, I was becoming apathetic, and the my highs were lessoning (hence the more smoking). I smoked twice since then, both in the same weekend, a few weekends ago. I got stoned out of my head. It was a good time. I'm going to wait a little while longer before I start it up on a habitual process again, however I think my habits will be more on the line of 2-3 nights a week rather than 2-3 times a day.

i know what ur going through man, it aint easy, but it aint hard either.
get rid of ur pipes and bongs and bowls. buy some zig zags. it's a different approach to the habit entirely.
i used to smoke 1/8 - 1/4 of beasters everyday when i was dealing. i havent smoked in 10 months because of probation. i cant wait to get my fucking sauce back. i've cooked a hell of meal to put it on in the mean time.
drop the sauce and hit the grill dude!

if you enjoy it when you're alone but not with your friends...it sounds like you are smoking with the wrong people.
i've felt the exact same way before. one time at a friends house after smoking a joint...everyone was just sitting there slouched over...same old shit day after day....and i got up started ranting about how fucking boring it all was and just fucking kept going on and on about how we could be doing something great (like change the world). the whole facial expression thing was bad for me. i would literally tense up all of my muscles and just freeze in my chair because i couldn't even figure out the "proper" way of moving was....i was very anxious/paranoid.
luckily that faze passed...it was hell for awhile.

people change, that's just how things go, as you get older your tastes change with you. I smoked with my cousin for years, we have a tradition of smoking on xmas since that was the first time he ever got high. Last xmas he admitted to me he just didn't enjoy it as much anymore and rarely smoked (but he still wanted to toke a little on xmas) and preferred drinking now. I just hung out with him this past week and he hasn't smoked since our last toke on xmas.
Personally i still enjoy it very much, my gf used to be a pretty big smoker but now rarely tokes as well, it's no big deal. If ya like it, great, if you don't that's cool too. I just find it amusing how people get all up in arms when someone brings up a topic of disliking pot, it's like a majority of them get offended that someone doesn't like it anymore (ten fold when said person used to be a heavy toker)

The whole ranting and raving thing sounds like something I'd do. I'm glad it hasn't come to that yet. I have a feeling my 'friends' would just say "wow dude, settle down" and go back to smoking.
I just abandoned my two roommates because they're heading off to a stoner gathering. They aren't friendly, hippy stoners either. They're weird pseudo-rap fans, and they act like they're ten. One of my roommates was bringing a beer bong, so I decided to stay home and read some Twain.
I definitely need new friends. I think I'll join an activist group or something.
And I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who gets consciously confused by his own facial expressions. I feel like I'm always giving off a weird mood when I'm stoned.

Yeah, I hear ya. I've had a feeling this day was on its' way for a while now, and here it is.
I just hope I don't make the mistake of replacing one negative habit (in my case!) with another.

Isnt there a reverse tolerance with weed? Like your learning to get higher (clouded). At the same time it does lose the magical philosophicalness to it.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but there's definitely a good number of smokers that go through what I'm experiencing.

I never smoked like I was superman or anything. I just feel bad when I socially smoke.

i've felt the exact same way before. one time at a friends house after smoking a joint...everyone was just sitting there slouched over...same old shit day after day....and i got up started ranting about how fucking boring it all was and just fucking kept going on and on about how we could be doing something great (like change the world). the whole facial expression thing was bad for me. i would literally tense up all of my muscles and just freeze in my chair because i couldn't even figure out the "proper" way of moving was....i was very anxious/paranoid.
luckily that faze passed...it was hell for awhile.
I feel like I'm always giving off a weird mood when I'm stoned.
weed just magnifies what is already there in your mind.
i don't think i would like hanging out with your friends. to me they sound like the kind of guys that have to keep up this appearance of looking "hard" all the time (i guess to intimidate or just to be cocky). pot smoking with them....i wouldn't even consider it pot smoking. it fucking might as well be crack they are smoking.
i definitely use pot for recreation...but i also view it as a inspirational/motivational/spiritual tool.
oh and "wow dude, settle down" was the reaction i got out of my friends when that rant took place.

Well, my friends aren't like gangster wannabes or anything.. I just don't feel like I belong when I'm there.
For the record, I don't feel like I belong when I'm with my roommates, either - which is why I'm moving out.

I just hope I don't make the mistake of replacing one negative habit (in my case!) with another.
well, that's entirely up to you honestly. You don't have to replace it with anything, you have the choice of replacing it with habits that can be healthy like working out or being creative. I'm not sure if this was in response to me saying my cousin liked drinking more then smoking, i wouldn't say he replaced smoking with drinking, he just prefers the buzz more. He's hardly an alky, he drinks more then me by choice when we're together, but if it came down to it i could drink him under the table in a contest.

Mentioning that your cousin liked drinking more is what sparked that comment, yes. But I didn't mean that he was replacing addictions or anything - just that I want to make sure I don't.
I think that physical exertion is going to be the most helpful thing in this change of lifestyle. Otherwise, like was said before, getting to bed is going to be a royal biatch.

For real. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling positive. I took one hit and fell asleep fairly quickly last night. I think tonight might be the same way. Since I'll be alone, I'm going to smoke a bit and clean my room. Like I said, I still enjoy solitary "projects" when I'm high... just not sitting around. =/

yah, it sucks for a day or two, but in the long run not smoking before bed is the best thing you can do. Heavy cannabis use, and especially use directly before sleep, interrupts the REM cycle and prohibits you from entering deep sleep. Ever wonder why you wake up the next day feeling tired as fuck even though you may have slept 12 hrs? That's why, even though you slept for a long while your body never truly entered deep sleep and your rest was incomplete.
Also, your dreams are more constant and vivid since you enter REM sleep while abstaining from smoking. I'm currently home with my parents on vacation and have smoked twice in the past week and 1/2 since i wanted to take a break. Not only have i had more dreams but i've been getting better sleep. Mind you i cut my habit down back home to a few bowls a day, but cutting it down to none has made sleep and dreams much more enjoyable.

I've gotta keep that in mind. I sure do love smoking and feeling my head sink into the pillow.. oh, the luxury.. but I'm sure I'll get used to sober shut-eye.

right after i hit the submit button i realized...that my guess at what your friends were like was probably wrong. i mean, i like some rap music, and a good friend of mine likes most rap music and is by far no means a thug (he's actually a dude that has a gimp short arm, owns his own business and is the first of my friends to take out a mortgage on a home). not sure why i automatically associated likeness of rap to wannabe gangster....maybe had something to do with me reading some shit earlier on these forums this ignorant racist ass wrote.

I'm with you. Smoking pot is rarely fun for me either. I no longer smoke by myself. I will smoke with others, depending on who I'm with. It used to provide hours of entertainment for me everyday, now it just doesn't. I too have an urge to read.
