Would you put LSD in the water supply?
    #7305147 -

Put all hindering factors aside. For some reason or other, you have several kilos of LSD, which cannot be destroyed by chlorine. You have an easy opportunity to get it all into the water supply.
Would you do it?
You may choose only one

in ridiculously small sub-psychedelic doses, LSD in the water supply would simply make a happier society.
for instance one glass of water = 2.5 ug or something like that.
the regular 8 glasses a day yields boosted happiness without the side-effects that other anti-depressants and serotonin pharms have

keep in mind

fluoride is a tranquilizer and is put in the water, supposedly, for this very reason, nothing to do with the health of our teeth
AND it is not GOOD to SWALLOW
yet lsd then, for the same function as fluoride, but for happiness and greater beauty and joy, in tiny tiny amounts, the same way fluoride is now

would be safer no?

does not mean anyone ought to, just a counter-point against the fact that our water is subtly drugging us.

i was actually reading about how the cia wanted to weaponize hallucinogens in the 50s and 60s in their secret programs artichoke and mk-ultra, they decided that LSD wouldnt be effective enough because of difficulties disbursing it, but then they asked all the pharmaceutical companies to send them any drugs whose negative side effects far outweigh the benefits, and a company sent them somethin called quinuclidinyl benzilate, or "bz" which they call a "superhallucinogen" its supposed to COMPLETELY detach the user for all aspects of reality, and make them completely non functioning, almost in a coma for much longer than an acid trip. this is from "Acid Dreams" by Lee and Shlain:

"The effects usually last about three days, although symptoms - headaches, giddiness, disorientation, audatory and visual hallucinations, and maniacal behavior - have been known to last as long as six weeks"

from 1959 to 1975 the army tested bz on more than 2800 soldiers

"One paratrooper lost all muscle cntrol for a time and later seemed totally divorced from reality. 'The last time i saw him' said [an enlisted man], 'he was taking a shower in his uniform and smoking a cigar'"

Ahh, such great resonance this thread might create. I was on Acid yesterday with a few of my friends by the waterfall/river by my house, and one of them asked: "How much LSD would you need to dilute in the water to make people trip?"

I was like: "All the LSD ever made+your mamma"

Nah, while I do think everyone should try lsd at least once in their life and I willingly introduce it for free to anyone willing it really depends on set and setting to how good of a time the person has. I know if I had never done psychs before and started tripping, even off of just 150-200 mics of lsd I'd think I was seriously fucked up somehow. I can only imagine the circles of thought i'd get stuck in trying to figure out what was wrong with me. People have a wide range of effects off of the same dose of psychs. I had a friend I had tripped with many times off of two hits of acid off of the same sheet and we had a lot of just good happy lightish trips of just sitting around commenting on visuals/talking about humanity and getting all philosophical like trippers tend to do and one time (same sheet same dose as many times before) he literally forgot who he was and started having a bad time. He commented that he didn't know "what" he was. I told him he was <name> and he said "yes I know I have a name but what does that really mean? does a rock care if its called a rock or a banana?" after about 30 minutes with a little help he pulled himself into a headspace where although he still didn't know who or what he was he was just happy to exist and we had a good time from then on out. My point was even if you tryed to measure out the dose so people only had a low dose, you don't know how everyone will react to that and while several people might have a good time I do not want to take the chance of giving someone a bad time AND not knowing what was going on with zero help.

I notice abuse in your post. That's not very nice, now is it? I posed the question, and I actually voted no. I didn't suggest it was a good idea.

I think just handing out sheets of acid in the street would be far more effective. I used to think putting it in the water supply would be a good idea, but then I remembered children and old people exist.

I meant to add in the first post that it'd be announced. I wouldn't do it, since it would almost inevitably result in LSD's state of illegality becoming permanent. Anyone physically and mentally healthy should, in my opinion, have a psychedelic experience, but they should be given a choice rather than be forced one way or another.

And in many ways it would be. Messing with someones consciousness without them knowing is a definite no. Even announced it's forcing some people to use other sources of water. Then again the water could just be boiled and made clean. Everyone should have a psychedelic experience but only by their own choosing.

I just read that book, too!

I'd hand the acid to people, not slip it into their drink. It's better when you know something fun is about to happen. It prepares and conditions you into an excited, more pleasure-available state.

I personally know two people who've been unknowingly dosed, and neither of them reported a good time. One had to be hospitalized, the other played out (inside his head) freaky scenarios from his childhood in the middle of traffic. He thought he was yelling and freaking out, but the other people in the car all said he just made funny faces into the rearview mirror. The one who went to the hospital won't do psychedelics at all anymore.

--------------------
I believe with the advent of acid we discovered new way to think and it had to
do with piecing together new thoughts of mind. Why is it that people think it's
so evil? What is it about it that there is scares people so deeply? Because
they are afraid that there is more to reality than they have ever confronted.
That there are doors that they're afraid to go in and they don't want us to go
in there either because if we go in, there we might learn something that they
don't know. And that makes us a little out of their control.

yeah people certainly ought not to be dosed against their will,

we are dosed with fluoride against our will and it is a tranquillizer known to make people passive to authority

this is where i wage my speculations upon making it so that even if someone drank a gallon of water a day they wouldn't surpass 25 - 30 ug anyway, which

would just mean they would be happy? would it be like taking an anti-depressant?

its obviously not a right idea but if people are willing to eat and drink fluoride for their 'teeth' (scoffable and stupid!) they ... well... will consent to a lot of tomfoolery.

See, this is a very VERY interesting topic, and I'm glad it has it's own thread. I had this same idea on my very first acid trip. I wanted to share the experience with everyone.

There's no comparison to the overwhelming joy, happiness, and feeling of kinship I shared with the people around me. I could only imagine how happy a society filled with people feeling that way could be.

However, many of you are correct in saying that it is a good way to make people feel as if they are crazy. BUT, in my experience, and the combined experience of everybody I know and love, LSD does nothing more than fish out a person's truest emotions and personality. So if these people felt crazy, there's a good chance they're pretty close to it without acid.

All around a very intriguing idea which can spawn much good debate.

Not really. If you give someone lsd without them knowing then it won't be long till they go into a bad thought loop. It's almost a guarantee. As always there could be some exceptions but more than likely the exceptions are the people who are already crazy rather than the other way around.

You can see the results of doing it by researching
Saint Anthony's Fire.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ergotism
Back in the middle ages they accidentally dosed whole villages with a similar compound to lsd. The town went crazy.
Excerpt from  Hallucinogenic Plants - A Golden Guide

"EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES of the narcotic morning glories began in 1955 when a psychiatrist published notes on self-experimentation with Rivea seeds, showing that they brought on an intoxication accompanied by hallucinations. This announcement prompted chemists to examine the plant, but no active principle could be found until the 1960's. At that time the chemist who discovered LSD analyzed the plant and found several alkaloids closely related to that potently hallucinogenic synthetic compound. His astonishing discovery met with widespread disbelief, partly because these Iysergic-acid derivatives had hitherto been known in nature only in the primitive fungus ergot (Claviceps purpurea), a parasite on the grains of rye in Europe, when ergot was accidentally ground up in a mill with rye flour and eaten in bread made from the flour, it poisoned whole towns, causing a terrible intoxication and leading frequently to widespread insanity and death. In the Middle Ages, before causes were understood and preventative measures taken, these mysterious mass attacks were called St. Anthony's Fire and were attributed to God's wrath. Half a dozen of these ergoline alkaloids have been found in seeds of Rivea corymbosa and Ipomoea violacea. The main hallucinogenic constituents of both seeds are ergine (d-lysergic acid diethylamide) and isoergine, but other related beses occur in minor amounts - chiefly chanoclavine, elymoclavine, and lysergol. The total alkaloid content of Ipomoea violacea is five times that of Rivea corymbosa, which explains why the natives use fewer of the Ipomoea seeds in preparing for their rituals. While these alkaloids are not uncommon in numerous morning glories around the world, apparently only in Mexico have the plants been utilized as narcotics. Alkaloids"
