anyone else stop using shampoo?
    #7302701 - 08/16/07 09:48 PM (16 years, 7 months ago)

so i read a bunch of personal accounts of people that stop using shampoo and the results are varied

some report that after a couple weeks of oily looking hair it stabilizes , looks normal and smells fine(so it's clean).

some report that their hair gets progressively worse and smells poorly

i read enough positive reports to give it a shot. about 3 weeks in i got someone to smell my oily hair and the response was not good.

i'm now about 6 weeks in, it still looks oily and i'm assuming smells bad

now i figure if i brush talcum powder through my hair, that will remove the oil that's holding the dirt that simply rinsing seems to not remove

anyone got some first or second hand experience in the matter?

i dont use shampoo. I use minimal amounts of different unrefined oils. Massage into my scalp, then rinse. If I leave enough in, it looks and holds like gel, but its oily.

Just use shampoo man. Better to use it and not look like a greaseball

When I had long hair, I also ran with it down so all the sweat got in it and it tasted like salt, but looked normal for the most part.

I use some dr. bronner's all-in-one soap in my hair every few days. It looks and smells fine. I like it way more than shampoo.

After I first shaved my head three years ago I have found no need for shampoo or paying for haircuts...shampoo, I'd almost forgotten that word existed.

thats pretty nasty, 6 weeks?, your girls okay with that?

I know I would not be gettin any if i did that.

I heard that the oils in your hair are good for the scalp, and to not shampoo frequently, but I seriously have to shower everyday, and it goes along with the shower habbit.

I hate having short hair. It doesn't have the satisfying swish across my back.

I've just started putting apple cider vinegar on my head before I shampoo for dandruff.

I have heard of people not using shampoo and using more natural things. Like oils, or baking soda, or vinegar, or whatever the hell it is they use (I don't remember). A lot of people in the natural life style community seem to be into this sort of thing because of not wanting to use harsh chemicals on your body (that are assumed to be absorbed into your body).

But just completely not washing your hair at all? That is just being a dirty wook.

P.S.: You probably smell really bad. Please do the people you come in contact with a favor and either start shampooing or using one of the freaky natural ways to clean your hair.

I keep my hair pretty short and rinse it with water. I shave my head too and just scrape my scalp With a knife. Theres a bunch of oil buildup and dead skin cells that accumulates after years directly on the scalp that only chemical shampoos sold only to professional hair stylists can remove. That layer is responsible for Dirty hair as it spreads into the follicles since only what is on the hair follicle surface is removed by conventional shampoo.

I dont go to the barber and just cut my hair or shave my head when it gets too long and keep it short. I just rinse my hair in the shower daily and use hemp shampoo/soap once a mnth or when it gets bad. My soap is peppermint and stings the crap out of my ballsack but I only stink of peppermint.

I haven't used since I live in my current location, so about .... 2 years. It smells fine and looks great. All the sodium Ammonia Sulfate in shampoo is not good for you. Yet we take a hot shower and open our pores so we can make sure it gets in there really well. I just make sure I scrub the hell out of it with my fingers every time I shower and it feels fine and smells fine. You may need to scrub for a few mintes like 10 or so.

I've heard very good things about the baking soda / apple cider vinegar combo. Evidently your hair will go through a detox phase for about a week to 3 once you stop using shampoo. This will make it greasy. You only have to use this bs/acv combo like 2-3 times a week (if that), and its not a bunch of chemicals like shampoo.. it just cleans your hair. Which unless you're getting REALLY dirty then your hair isn't going to be that dirty at all. Heres a link.. http://babyslime.livejournal.com/174054.html I've yet to try it out, but I've been thinking about it. I've only heard good things from a few people who have tried it.
