Sounds good. Tell us about the results.

Actually I need a dried cap or at the very least a few gills to look at the microscopic structures. A spore print alone would require cultivation to produce a mushroom to examine, and that takes time. I should be able to pin it down to Section and if its described in Guzman I should be able to get it down to species (assuming it is a Psilocybe). The pseudorhizza and orange cap are distinctive and should narrow it down quite well.

No kidding! I don't know of any other Psilocybe with such a prominent rooting stipe!
Exciting!

To me it looks like theres two different types of mushrooms. One that resembles cubes and one that looks like inactives ive found before. Im probably wrong, but i just dont see the orange caps bein the same mushies as the cube lookin ones.Theres a huge color difference. Even though they all have the white ridge at the bottom of the cap. The orange caps also have nipple indentions, which none of the lighter ones have.
Nice finds.

The colour differentiation you are describing is referred to as Hygrophanous.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hygrophanous
Quote:
Hygrophanous
The adjective hygrophanous refers to the color change of mushroom tissue (especially the pileus surface) as it loses or absorbs water, which causes the pileipellis to become more transparent when wet and opaque when dry.
When identifying hygrophanous species, one needs to be careful when matching colors to photographs or descriptions, as color can change dramatically soon after picking.
Genera that are characterized by hygrophanous species include Agrocybe, Psathyrella, Psilocybe, Panaeolus, and Galerina.

no, I think he's talking about a dried sample.
I've sent a sample to Workman before, and it was a gently dried cap and a sporeprint.

somehow that post didn't get entered for MANY posts after I submitted it. My internet connection was wonky today.

OOh Im so excited, theres a forecast for very heavy showers over the next two days. Im going to go out after and see what I can find. And I found a spot where some road dividers have some dung piled up on them, and I saw little white oval pins coming out of the dung. Dunno what species, but Im sure to find out soon!
And Im going to go find some more pastures so I can get more pictures of the stuff growing around me.

What are you a "cognitively challenged and/or lazy" person? If you actually take the time to read the whole thread you'll see that it's still far from known what species.

Yeah a little over the line but this guy clearly hadn't read the thread properly so he decided instead to waste peoples time by asking them to read it for him and summarise the as yet non-existent result.
Aaaanyway...I'm looking forward to see some fresh pics of what gmuralid has found. Let us not stray from the topic at hand!
