    #728346 - 07/07/02 04:25 AM (21 years, 8 months ago)

Hey everyone!

I am going to be trying a BFR/Verm/Brown Sugar cake once i get my PC fixed. Do ya'll think there is anything bad about the idea? And opinions about it?

Well if you do a search for brown sugar you will ifnd a recent post about someone getting great results.

that beign said do not add to much sugar you will end up with it all sticking together and leaveing no air space.

I was thinking like 2 table spoons per cake.

I'm thinking the sugar would turn into a sticky mess, but what do I know. Sugar is definately not necessary, but a little experamenting never hurt anyone.

Two tablespoons per jarand you will end up with a brf/vern cookie.... you might want to drop that down to like a 1/4 teaspoon.

Mushies dig dextrose (corn sugar). It's a proven adjunct that works. You can pick it up at home brew supply and health food stores. Listen to Mr. Howard, sugar of most any type caramelizes when heated. Caramelized sugar in your substrate makes it harder for mycelia to run through it. A little bit will go a long way so like the man above me says, 1/4 teaspoon or less to start.......

Err somethin..........

I have to agree with Shdwstr there. you don;t want much sugar at all.
If these will be cakes you may even just want you inject some Brown sugar water into the cakes after birth and see what happens then.
do a few jars differnt ways and label them so you know whats what.
and please keep us posted if you make a break through

"DAMN! You got a pressure cooker?lucky bastard, do grains! If i had a Pressure cooker i wouldn't even fuck with the PF tek. "

I sure hope you were kidding! Whats so amazing about a PC, you can get a new one for like $30. Why wouldn't you do the PF, there isnt anything wrong with it. No offence but your post made you sound very poor

I finally just got me a pc for 40 bucks today. It only took me about 3 months..lol I used my grocery money for the week to buy it. I figured i'd just have to starve for a week, but now I finally got a pc I definitly needed one though, b/c my regular brf/verm cakes were getting bacterial contam the past 4 or 5 times I tried them. Dont know why b/c I used the same thing the first couple of times with no problem then all of a sudden it came. I am trying out some birdseed for the first time tonight too. I want to see how well it works and hopefully it will do better than the brf/verm that I use. I love being able to put a lot more jars sterilizing than I use too be able to. I should have just bought one to start off with, but when you aint got no money, you aint got no money.

In reply to:

i have 2 cookers,i go pf style,then case

why add brown sugar,i have read some amazining things using honey and sachrin(maybe?)

if you want to add extra nutrition,i would add some flax instead,it will get real sticky when wet,so dont add much water, but it wont carmelize like sugar will
