OK i got 12 PF jars at 15 days after innoculation... no contaminations yet (THANK GOD) This is my very first time growing, in fact im a total newb to mushrooms... but Seems like im doing everything pretty good since theres no jar casualties yet...
My Jars are almost completely colonized... i got these 2 pics to show u some of my jars... They have been looking like this for the past 3 days... very slow growth now, should i birth them soon?, im very confused at this point because they seem to have stopped growing...
Like i said... theyve been looking the same for days now... no signs of pins yet... how can i make them start pinning? any help would be much appreciated

IMHO, Birth those babies into your terrarium! They look ready to me!
If you're smart, since you've got 12 of 'em, you'll use a few to spawn a few bulk substrate cakes and do some casings.
Use RoadKill's horse poo tek, or plain wheat straw cased in coir or 50/50.
Doing the bulk substrate method will produce serious quantity!
One question... WHAT STRAIN IS THAT??

Hello, Thanks for your Post and advice! This strain is the PF Classic... Colonized realllly fast, faster than i thought...
I was thinking of taking the first 2 or 3 jars and keep them as cakes, so i can get some fast fruits... and taking the rest of the cakes and make a casing out of them...
Again, thanks for your input

Smart move! BUT don't put all your eggs in one basket there bud! Do several casings! Not one big one! I think you know the reasons why that'd be a good idea...

Looks good to me. They say wait a week after they become fully colonised but i usually birth a couple days after 100% colonization and have good results. I have not had any contams to this day. Knock on wood. ALSO>>>> what strain is that....15 days to complte colonization is pretty damn fast.

Hey there,
I thought they were fast until I put some EQ's in a few jars. I put them in 07/02 and they will be 100% in about 2-3 days most. I was startled at the speed...they have outrun everything else I have seen. Use some of the cakes to spawn some poo mix and then case it with a 50/50+ casing when the poo mix is fully colonized. The ingredients are pretty easy to get and you will get alot more based on what I have seen around here. Good luck!!
Best regards,
KingBolete
PS...nice jars and good job bro.

to kingbolete: i am an amateur [yet] in mushroom cultivation, but i suppose there are a number of factors for faaaaast colonization of cakes. My cakes now r almost colonized and its yet day 5 and the strain is GT.
First of all it matters how much cc's of spores u r innoculating, i think. Then the temperature and the medium [i used rye flour+vermiculite].
to neophytshroomer: CONGRATS MY FRIEND! as i am know having a similar success on my cakes, after two errative trials with jars which almost let me down, i feel so happy every time i say succesful cakes well done!

Hey there,
Hiya Kykeon...so you are grinding up rye berries or just bying the flower? Those GT's sound like they are hauling booty. How many cc's of spore are you using and how dense is it? How are you finishing you cakes? I hope the thread starter does not think we are kidnapping his thread as this is good information to make choices with also. I am definitely a neuubb...

Hello Kingbolete...
well i couldnt find rye flour or brown rice flour, so i put in my mom's mixer a generous amount of organic rye grains. after a lot of working and a f*** lot of noise lol, i had some quantity of lets say it rye flour.
i used 14 big fullspoons of vermiculite [medium sized] with 6 big fullspoons of that rye flour.
i created 4 cakes with the quantity i had [too little...] and innoculated them with 1 cc of spores EACH. Its not little amount, its a lot, and i think that why it moves so fast. but i must admit that both GT cakes move a lot faster than my EQ cake.
I am going to leave at least one cake like that, for i need some shrooms to see [after my two unsuccesful trials... it let me down] but i will also try:
a) to make a casing for a cake b) to innoculate rye grains with some mycelium
PEACE!!!

Kykeon.. Do you mean 1cc per cake? or per innoculation hole? 1cc isnt a lot per cake. Thats pretty much the mimimum amount most people use. I use 2cc per cake now....about 1/2 cc per innoculation hole. So I get 6 jars per syringe.

You should wait at least a 7 more days from the time your jars hit 100% to ensure proper internal colonization. You may also want to dunk your cakes for 12 hours before birthing them when the time comes. Dunking makes a huge difference.
Good Luck.

To GreyMatter:
i used 1 cc on each cake or 0.25cc per hole thought it was much... so my cakes are moving fast, but not because of the quantity... ehm... not to be confused, i am not the one with the beautiful pictured cakes on this thread lol

This strain is the PF Classic
Well, You won't want to case the PF classic. You will want to leave them as cakes. The PF Classic doesn't like to be cased.....and doesn't do well in casings. sorry!
You should wait til they are fully colonized... wait another 7 days then fruit them.
Good luck with your cakes!

I got an update on 2 days after the previous pix... These are... hehe... lookin the same You can see on this cake, i tried to bang around the mycelium so it can spread as much as possible... ended up bruising it a lil bit
Heres some pics of the first 4 cakes im gonna birth...
So does this count as 100% colonized? I know i may sound pretty retarded... but i feel these arend growing any more than they have... but i dont wanna take em out too soon and experience the horrible world of contamination
P.S. - im prolly gonna make a grow log out of this heh since I got a cam

Hey there,
What is the problem with PF Classic and casings...I would not think it would really make much difference if done correctly? What about the PF "Hawaiian"..have any experience with those? PF site says pretty much have to birth and double end case those to get them to go. Does the PF person ever come around the shroomery...? Thanks for the feedback Roadkill.

Untape you jars for faster growth. Roadkill is right, PF don't like casings very much, you should stick to cakes this time. You'll get fruits if you case but they are commonly smaller than fruits from a cake.

Hey there,
Heheheh! Now you tell me...oh well, it was only the shavings from one cake but it amazingly has colonized three 8x8x3 trays of rich compost/cow poo substrate and is starting into the 50/50+ casings. I worked hard on those trays...I hope something good happens. Roadkill I saw pictures of some of the shrooms trays you have finished so I know you have good experience. I will let you know how mine workout...
