American/Canadain boarder
    #7297945 - 08/15/07 03:32 PM (16 years, 6 months ago)

Driving into canada tonight to visit some friends, I have driven over the boarder once and all I was asked for was a license. My friends are telling me I am going to need a birth certificate to get back in, I did not need this last time.

I know they reccently changed how they do it.. im not familiar with the new travel laws.. but i think it takes like 9 weeks, although if u pay extra they can do rush delivery.

My passport doesnt expire for another 4 months and ive had it since i was a baby so i dont really know too much about it.. i just know they reccently changed the requirements to enter the country.

Enjoy those 4 months man, because the new passports all have RFID chips for tracking people :mad2:

Yeah, you gotta allow about 3 months for the process just to be safe, even though it usually doesn't take that long. You can get a rush put on it and have it in less then 2 weeks, but its pretty expensive.

Its a good idea to have one. Everybody should just go down and get one even if you don't anticipate needing it. That way if something pops up and you get invited to go out of the country you don't have to look at your shoes and mumble "I ain't got no passport". Its getting to the point that you won't be able to even go to Canada or Mexico without it anymore.
