why wont they fruit?
    #729818 - 07/07/02 07:11 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

at present, i have 5 cakes birthed, cakes are brf/verm, innoculated with P.Cubensis Australian.. the spores are over a year and a half old but the cakes appeared to be fully colonised after about 3 weeks so i assumed they were still viable. I birthed them into a medium sized plastic container (large enough as i have done it b4), and immediatly heated and humidified them, using perlite. its been about 2-3 weeks later now and i have nothing!! i expose them to usually at least an hour of light every day, the RH is usually at about 98%, temperature is usually around 23-25 degree's celsius although sometimes it drops below that, i fan usually bout 2-3 times a day..
what am i doing wrong??

probably should add that they appear to be a bit bruised, ( my mum or dad shoved the box onto my bed, not sure if they realised what it was, but when i checked rthem they were stacked up on top of eachother SLIGHTLY damaged, but nothing to serious?

Ya sounds like you have it going good, if you don't have pics discribe your cakes are they really, really, puffy white? just a little puffy, and how bruised? light, dark blue, black, and how much % is bruised? or do they look like the day you put them in?

i'll try to get some pics soon but i cant at the moment, dont have access to a digital camera or video cam..
anyways the best i can describe it is as follows..
some parts light, some parts dark blue.. in patches all over the cakes. more bruising on the sides as they have been knocked around.
doesnt look at all black... distinctly blue.
first time growing a while ago i had similar looking cakes yet they grew shrooms.. eventually. i originally had the problem where it was too cold for a few weeks, then as soon as i put it next to a heater pinheads formed..

if these cakes would be too bruised to produce shrooms, is there any other way i'd be able to use them.. maybe case them? althoguh i'm not too confident on successfully doing that, first time didnt work.

In reply to:

and immediatly heated and humidified them

from incubation to birthing a decrease in temperature is needed to help initiate pinning.. also do you have light on these? that would also help....

i tried cold shocking them in the fridge for about 12 or so hours... perhaps it needed to be longer? i guess i'll try put as much light on them as possible.. dunk them... cold shock again.. and if nothing happens within the next week or two then i guess i may as well just extract from the cakes..

come to think of it... they did seem a little dry when i birthed them

i miss seeing hundreds of those little things growing tho!!
