I find this an interesting quote. It' reminds me vaguely of something George Castanzsa said. :crazy2:

Why would you want to live without hope? Is there something freeing about that idea?

Yes, indeedy. Hope is all about expectations. When we have expectations about reality, we are not fully experiencing the present moment, as we are caught up in our own neurosis.

yeah cuz i mean,
i think most of us could be happier if we weren't on internet forums so much
is that not a function in and of itself of hope, that is, dreams, that is visions of the future that create happy feelings when you think about doing them?

present moment and all that jazz sure, eternal now, but, eternal now is better if its not indoors on a computer right? isn't it?
unless you wanna write something important right?

i want to be a kid and go through a neat play-place or some sort of park of sorts perhaps on acid with friends.

I fish after work a couple times a week but mostly on weekends, am I a weekend warrior?

Does the term apply to to people on the path too?

people that don't work are weekend warriors
but there is an old men who says he has 13,000 movies
i don't really care to associate with him but some people are impressed by that

hes always sitting outside probably wanting people to watch movies with him

I retired at 54 and my health and energy are pretty good and getting better. I almost never fish on weekends unless I'm far into the back country. I don't like the company of people, in nature that I would be wary around in the city. I like to be alone or with a friend. Out where I live you can actually do that and have some really awesome fishing thrown in.

I don't think it's necessarily so...
We choose to spend out time on forums because we get something out of it. Otherwise, why we would make such a choice?
It's not like we're being held captive... it's always our choice where we are and what we do with our time and choices should be about what makes us happy.

We choose it because it's what we want, because it make us feel good.
Or that's how one would normally think.
We choose something over a multitude of possibilities because it appeals us most.

Well there has to be a reason that makes you choose spending time like this instead of other things.

And what are the better things to do and what's keeping you from doing them?
I'm asking you that because sometimes we confuse what we need (an in extent makes us happy) with things/activities that for some reason we think that they would make us happier.

Maybe it makes us feel good because it's easy, requires no discipline, and distracts us from what's really important to us?

Realizing that this kind of choice is easier than others (because it requires no self discipline and no effort - though I'm not so sure about that either because we can train our awareness in no matter what situation and because discipline is not a physical labor that requires certain visible conditions) is becoming aware of what other "better" options we have so we can become more disciplined. So we can always make another choice. Sticking with the initial alternative, is still a choice and it means it's important for us stick to it, even though we might think the opposite because of feeling guilty.

For example, one could think hey what am I doing here, browsing the internet all day, when I could read a book or go out and hang out with friends? One might feel guilty that one still chooses to browse the internet, when one could start thinking why he does that... maybe after all, browsing the internet is what he needs and what could help (even in discipline) if he could just stop feeling guilty about it. :shrug:

Tell me, what is really important for us?

I personally have spent plenty of time engaging in discussion in mostly this forum because it helps me realize my perspective on reality, through considering others ideas, as well as learning how to most appropriately express my thoughts to convey to others as intended. Being a realized individual is one of the most important things for myself, in my opinion, for the better I understand the nature of reality, the more capable I am of navigating it. The more I bring myself to be conscious, through contemplating the nature of reality and engaging in interaction that changes and evolves this understanding of reality, the more life I live.

I'm not certain what standards you are passing judgement with, but it clearly is a personal standard, and does not apply to anyone else. :shrug:

Maybe it has brought me to become more in-tune with myself, and reality, and that's what is important to me. It is has also, coincidentally, or not (:strokebeard: :smirk:) brought me to find what truly is most important to me. :heartpump:

So, yes, it is my best choice, for me. Who knows if your choice is the best choice for you. You should, if you are into knowing yourself. :grin:
