I wish I would have known about this site before I bought a stupid ass kit. Dookie is is the shit, epescially horse crap with some straw already in it. Shroom Wizards grow guide sucks. I tweaked a little bit and it ended up being like all the good teks on this site. Whoevers in charge should get that shit off of here. None of its as hard as it sounds and the rewards come quicker than anything in the plant family. Be patient!

nope.....can't think of anything.
I spent months here reading all the posts I could read.....learning all I could learn. hours and hours on end.....10 to 14 hours a day reading posts.
I didn't ask a question til i saw something someone had built and wanted to know how to make the same thing.....4 or 5 months after being here.
So luvdemshrooms really likes me....lolzzzz Cause I used the search and I didn't ask stupid questions.....hahaaaa
I think I had great success cause I can follow directions. I started experimenting.....but I always did a proven tek too at the time.
Ok......I'll bite......I wish I had started working with horse poo sooner!!!!!

Above all else, one thing that is hard to do without actual experience is to know when to birth a casing... or at least I found it so... and how to prepare the best possible casing layer is another biggie.
Oh, and straw is god!

I wish I had known how important your sense of smell can be when growing. My nose can easily detect or even identify contaminants that my eyes cannot. Of course, you only learn through personal experience. But here are some guidelines:
If I sniff a PF-tek jar, these smells are good: sugar or caramel mushroom (smell a bag of fresh white button mushrooms)
and these smells are bad: feet ass cheese sour milk yeast anything that makes you want to vomit
I am amazed at what I can grow. Some of these contaminants create scents that I have never smelled in my life, but that I instantly know it spells "bad news".

I am a newbie and made a bonehead move right after innoculation, but luckily I have recovered nicely. Anyway, I wish I had known to get opaque casing boxes, I have pins going every which way but up it seems. Even with duck tape on the sides they are going haywire. Thanks

I looked at your pictures, the fact that the mushrooms only emerge from the sides indicates that the humidity in your setup is not high enough.

Well, my cat was one of the fortunate ones who found their way to Ryche Hawk's site first, then from there discovered the Shroomery. Most of his early mistakes involved impatience and laziness (didn't fan or mist enough).
Filter discs. Filter discs are proof that god loves us and wants us to grow mushrooms (and be happy).
My cat wishes he lived in a more rural area so he could discreetly farm the countryside.
He also wishes that he'd skipped cakes altogether and went straight for casing with rye berries. So much more worth the effort!
Finally, he wishes that he'd never mentioned that he knew how to grow these things to anyone. He was pretty good and didn't blab it everywhere, but after the fact he thinks it might have been wiser to keep it a complete secret.

Well, casing's are best, regardless of what anyone says, to get the best yeild it is for certain that you must case at some point during the life cycle of the mycelial network.
The casing layer is very important, patience and dilligence in the preperation is key.. make sure the materials are prepared correctly, correct h20 saturation, and that the layer is layed out very even, but airy and rough at the same time.
Knowing when to birth is harder to explain, it kinda depends on how things are going at the time, how the surface looks, how quickly it is being colonized... etc..
Hope that helps at least a little.
Hammy.
